New 68 Cutlass S Convertible Owner

Greetings,

I've been reading through these forums for the past few weeks and picking up terrific information. I am the proud new owner of a '67 Cutlass S Convertible. This car started out its life in Green Bay WI. Originally driven by my grandmother until a small fender bender when she stopped driving. My uncle (who was responsible for pushing her into the purchase) bought the car from her. The car went off the road in 1980 and then came back later but essentially only driven a few times a year. It was time for him to let the car go and it now resides in southern NJ.

The car has a 350 Rocket with 2 speed Jetaway trans and 65K miles. It is probably a reasonable 20 foot or more car but definitely needs some TLC. Outside of wear on the seats, wonky ignition switch and the clock not working, the interior is in good shape. New shocks were already put in with much cussing and visits to 5 different shops to find a replacement clip nut. Some patching was done on the exhaust system to get me through for a bit. Can't spend too much at once before the wife starts in about a new kitchen. With respect to that, it will take some time before I'm ready but will need to deal with the rust in the quarter panels and such. The frame and whatnot are covered with a layer of rust but it all appears to be just on the surface and is solid underneath. The engine is leaking oil at minimum from the valve covers but I fear for other places. So lots to keep me busy preserving this bit of family history.
