Hello,

My name is Joe and I recently inherited a 66 Cutlass from my Dad. The car was fully disassembled about 12 years ago and has sat in his garage since. I have decided to move forward with a full restoration. I have the original 330 but decided to drop in the 455 dad had sitting in his basement. I'm looking for some help with identifying the set of rockers purchased for the 455. **Edit** I now realize this probably should have been posted in a more specific forum. My apologies.

Can anyone identify this set of roller rockers? They were purchased about 15 years ago. The only identifying marks on them is on the packaging which says "Part No. 7200." That part number is consistent with Mondello but their current model 7200 is a steel rocker and the set I have is aluminum.

These will be for a 455 build, 10.5:1 pistons, C Heads, mild cam. Will this style rocker hold up for street use?

I agree, they do closely resemble the 7500's but they are different. I'm not sure if there was a manufacturing change or even if they were supplied by Mondello? I'm still on the hunt for the bag of receipts I used to hear my dad talking about all the time.

Aside from doing some homework to ensure they are installed correctly, I'd like to find out if they are a decent rocker set and will hold up.

Looks just like a set of Harland Sharpe Rockers I have

I received the following response from Harland Sharp..."These are Harland Sharp rockers. At one time we made these exclusive for Joe Mondello but we have discontinued making them due to costs. Anyways they are a very strong and durable roller rocker for a factory Oldsmobile head. It’s my understanding that they will bolt on to the head without any machine work. The rockers are adjustable and you want to see 2 threads showing between the pushrod and the body of the rocker when installed. This will help when measuring the pushrod length. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks."

 

I'd go ahead and use them, bet they are a marked improvement over a stock setup. From the looks of it, no special tooling required.

 

Thanks for the input Eric. I am going to use them. I brought a set out to the heads and it appears they will drop on without any special modifications. I appears may need to cut the baffles out of the stock valve covers to increase clearance though.

 

If your just lacking a small amount of clearance perhaps a thicker VC gasket would help.
