My First US Classic: 59 Super88
Dear list!
Just browsing the list gave me some tips and answered questions in respect to the 59 Super88 which I bought as a new distraction / project: 80kmiles, 4 door, no frills (Hydromatic and power steering).
Let me introduce myself - I am not a car-guy, but have worked on cars since my 18th birthday. Growing up in VW-land mostly on bugs and VW vans (the year of the Olds gives my age away. I enjoy any old technology and love working on test equipment, radios and stereo equipment from 20s through 70s.
The Super88 caught my eye and the picture below conviced me that I needed to get it! It was last driven in 1993, has some rust but is mostly complete and original except for a poor paint job.
I plan to make it a reliable driver and not so much a show-car. I have a lot to learn - yes there is a difference to a '68 bug!
I guess I should post my questions about lubricants, additives and other specifics so I can drive it without causing further damage (there seems to be some blow by, as the breather tube is puffing and there are a couple of low compression cylinders on the left bank) in the 'Large Oldsmobile - 88' forum?
Many thanks in advance!
