Smile msd ready to go distributor

hello fellow olds lovers, tpayne here. been a while since i have been on here. I was wondering if any of you have or know someone who has purchased a msd ready to run distributor. i have a 71 rebuilt 350 in my 71 cutlass and have had the hmi for several years. it runs great but have read that the new msd would be even better. any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks.

Where did you read that? Did it say anything more specific about how it would run better, or what would change? Any details on the rebuild that you would like to share?

There is no real difference on what you can do with a ready to run (which is not ready to run) and the stock HEI. I would maximize your current HEI setup to your engine or just leave it alone.

- Eric[/QUOTE I googled msd dist ready to run for the information. long story short, it would give me a hotter spark than my hei. As for my rebuild, my mechanic friend and I did all the work except the machine work. I have a 570 holley 4 barrel carb, alum intake, steel rings and new pistons, a mild cam. The block we found was in excellent condition. Has the standard bore. Also new oil pump, timing chain. Runs real nice. I guess the old adage (if it aint broke, don't fix may apply to me ). Eric says don't mess with it. I think I will save my 400 plus dollars and keep what I have. Thanks for replying. Have a great new year!
