Maybe a stupid question

I have this 455 Olds engine and trans out of a 1971 Ninety-Eight. It is an automatic trans. What is the trans most likely to be? And now for the stupid part, will it bolt up to a small block Chevy?

It should be a T-400 and no it will not bolt up to a SBC.

You can buy and adapter that will go from the Buick/Olds/Pontiac bolt pattern to the Chevy one, but there are different opinions on how good those are. They're on ebay pretty often. John

A t350 will have a kickdown cable to the carb and the t400 uses wires instead.

Why would you want to mate a Olds to a chebby? Thats why GM made the bolt pattern different they didn't want crossbreeds. They knew that Olds was superior to the Chebby and did not want to delute the gene pool

You should also be careful using an adapter. If you put a SBC motor on a BOP TH 400 you might blow your engine. It probably doesn't have enough horsepower to move the internals of a BOP TH 400.
