lifter noise 68 455

Hello, I am dster69442 and this is my first post. I own a 69 442 4 sped holiday coupe. I recently rebuilt a 68 Toro 455 and installed in my car which had a 403 in it when purchased. It also has a muncie 4 speed tranny.
I have a question or two: I have about 150 mellow miles on the re-built 455 motor and the lifters will not quiet down. I am hoping for suggestions on quieting lifters. Can i pull the lifters (which were brand new when installed) soak in oil push air out and re-use? I read about putting washers under the bridge pedestals, replacing rocker arms with brand new ones. I used all the original push rods and rocker arms which were cleaned thoroughly. The C heads were proffessionally re-built by a Head specialist.and the block, crank, cam and pistons were also done by proffessionals. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you break the cam in correctly? Used the higher zinc oil? You might have a cam lobe failure. Pull the valve covers and make sure all the rockers are moving correctly. Someone else should chime in soon.

Do not blame the lifters for the noise until you are sure. Possibly the rockers are not getting tight due to improper pushrod length. if the lifters are new and rockers and bridges look to see if the problem is too short of a pushrod.

Lifter noise resolved

Hey guys, just want to let you know I replaced my rocker arms and bridges and the lifter noise is fixed. Also installed a high rise aluminum intake on my 68 455 and it runs awesome and breathes way better, I am having difficulty finding dry days to drive my 69 442 here in the great wet northwest to get some miles on my rebuilt engine. Thanks for the tips on the lifter issues to all who responded. dster69442
