knocking loose rusted bolts

I took of the wheels off my 66 Toro. Got some new vertical and horizontal shocks for the rear and thought I'd replace them today. I'm new to restoration. My impact wrench couldn't knock loose the bolts. Granted the impact wrench is electric and only hits 345 lb-ft but I still couldn't get them.

I know there is alot of experience with rusted bolts out there. I'm looking for suggestions on how to dislodge them. HELP!

Heat is your friend. Get yourself (if you don't already have one) a blow torch. Heat the nut as best you can even until its glowing, this will cause the metal to expand and loosen its grip on the bolt. While its hot, put your impact or wrench or a 1/2 breaker bar with a 6-point socket on the nut and it should come loose.
You can also try some penetrating oil if you dont want to go the heat route: spray with the oil and let sit for a while maybe even overnight, then put the impact gun on it and switch from tightening to loosening until you get it to loosen up.
P.S. If you use heat, watch out for gas lines and tank.

try this stuff. in my area not many people know about this stuff but is incredible for what you are doing. will beat any other penetrating oil i have ever seen. i don't know how it is possible for it to work as good as it does.

I need to try this but I heard that old auto-trans fluid works great as a penetrating oil.

I have had good luck with Sea Foam Deep Creep and PB Blaster. Let them soak for a day or so.

i have used the others mentioned above but if you get a chance to try Kroil you will toss the others. the others are good and far better than nothing but on this one i will not try to convince anyone, i just ask if you see a can of it somewhere get a can and try it. it is hard to find in my area. the only place i found it is a place that we get stuff from at work and they are not a national chain.

THANKS!

Unbelievable how much knowledge there is on this site. I don't have a torch but at this point that's probably a good thing! I just ordered some Kroil...I'll post when I get the shocks replaced. Thanks to everyone who posted to help this newbie.

PS there is a "Google" deal on Kroil now where you can get 2 cans for the price of 1.

A local tool supply store sells Kroil here, it's spendy but I agree that it's much better than other products I've tried. John

Interesting, I always thought PB Blaster was the ultimate penetrating oil. I might have to try this Kroil if I can find it.

I have never heard of it but as much stuff as Jensen works on, I will take his word on it and look for some.

Thanks Jensen

you will all be cussing me if it don't work for you. i have faith that you will not be disappointed. i used PB blaster til i used this stuff. the only thing you need to remember is that it is for rusted nasty parts. don't confuse it for a lube to lube hinges and rollers and things that just need a little WD40 or another type of lube.

I like the spary lithium grease for door and hood hinges or an old fashion oil can with some 30 weight in it.
