Just joined looking sound advice for 69 442
Just joined as I am trying to obtain a 69 olds 442 convertible again. Had one from 73 to 89.
I have some vin codes but looking to decode down to options etc but do not have the build sheet yet.
Is there a way to decode from Vin number?
Hoping to find out in the next 7 days.
thank you.

Hi Paul
We can verify if its a real 442 or a Cutlass that's been cloned by the vin. Then identify which assembly plant the car was built on. But I think that's it for the vin. The trim tag will tell what the factory color was, paint, top and interior and if it was bucket or bench seat. There are some other codes that may be there, but the best thing would be for you to post a picture of the tag so folks here can help key it out for you. The trim tag is located under the hood, on the top of the firewall above the brake booster/master cylinder.
John
P.S. what part of NorCal are you located in?

Hi Paul,
Welcome! I'm across the bay from you over in San Bruno. Here's what I can tell from those codes:
13812 = body number (from plant)
TR 930 50 B = black bucket seat interior, cameo white exterior, black top
O4B C60 D55 = built second week of April, air conditioning, floor console
Sounds like a nice car. Post some pics if you can.

Hey Jon thanks for the note.
Quick question what are you using for fuel and where are you getting it.
I am in Walnut Creek.
The previous owner was using Sunoco - the car was in Florida.

Hi Paul,
I always put Chevron or 76 supreme (92) in it. Car's been off the road for many years but when I last drove it regularly it did fine on that octane. I don't know about the east bay, but out here there at least used to be a few Olympian stations that had 96 or 98 octane. Gotelli's speed shop in South San Francisco sells Sunoco race fuel in five gallon cans.

There is a local gas station up here that sells ethanol-free 92-octane premium. That's what I use in my cars. It costs a little more but the engine runs fine. I just drive the car normally, though - don't push it or race it at all!
