Introducing 1968CutlassSupreme...
Hello all, I am pleased to be a part of this very cool resource for classic Oldsmobiles. I am a proud owner of a 1968 Cutlass Supreme. I am not terribly savvy with cars so I'll probably have a lot of questions that may seem simple but I hope to have a good time interacting anyway.
Thank you oldsman72! It is red with a black vinyl top, black vinyl interior. It has a rocket 350 with a 2bbl and (i think) a Jetaway 2 speed transmission (which is something I will have questions about). I have been looking for a car in this condition that I could afford for about 20 years. It is relatively rust free, other than a little on the rear quarter panels and the rear cross member on the frame (right behind the bumper). I have owned the car for a little over a month. I can't describe finally owning one of these cars. My plans are to make it a capable street machine - something that can perform well (I'd like to be able to give the mustangs and camaros a surprise when we line up), but at the same time cruise the highway. It is a long way from that now, seeing it appears to be entirely stock at this point. I have to figure out things like how to tighten up the steering, putting disc brakes on the front so it'll stop well, getting a new 4 speed transmission (eventually) to work with a column shift car, how to beef up the engine, replace the differential gears...etc., etc., etc...lots of plans...a lot less money.
OldCutlass, here are a few pictures for now...https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...sssupreme.html.
As I posted yesterday, I have a lot of plans for this car, can you all help out a new comer and direct me to some suppliers, websites, resources to begin my "tinkering" journey? I know about www.yearone.com and www.summitracing.com but I don't know if the parts they recommend will fit, being that most of them are for chevy rather than oldsmobile (i.e. headers for the 350 say they are for the chevy "small block 350"). I am really starting from scratch so any input and guidance is welcome! Thanks in advance.
Headers need to be for an Olds and engine and body year specific. You can get them from Summit, Jeggs, etc... OPGI, Fusick, Kantor, are good for Olds specific parts. Your local auto parts store for standard engine mechanical, and suspension. Rockauto is a great online retailer.
Welcome aboard!
Lots of good info on this site that will help you out. If you cannot find it with the search function, then definitely post a thread on your topic, include pics if you can.
Lots to learn but we try to make it fun AND informative!

+1 on Fusick for Olds parts. I've used them a few times and was happy with them.
I've used Summit a lot. If you stick with the search mechanism on their website (while it can be a little confusing at times) it usually leads right to car-specific items. As mentioned, Rockauto is another good resource for parts for your car, less performance and more maintenance type parts (brakes, belts, hoses, etc...).
Good luck with your project!
