Hi y'all! Hoping to become a 442 retread
Dave here!
When I was 17 I purchased a '67 442. (Not my first car. It was really nice for a high school senior, and my first performance car.)
I really loved that car. I owned it for 3+ years and have always regretted selling it. Now 50 years later, I'm looking for another one.
I have a line on one, but I need to do my research to be sure it is what the seller claims it is. Any suggestions on threads for basic info? Reading the VIN number to be sure it's an original 67 442, obvious things they never made, (a 67 convertible, W30, 4 speed, with an original, numbers matching 455, A/C, and 4 wheel disk brakes) etc.
Just trying to be sure I get an original and not get ripped off for all my retirement money, chasing a dream. From the little I have seen on the site so far, y'all are very knowledgeable and helpful. Hopefully, as I learn more I will be able to contribute to the knowledge base.

Welcome and good luck in your search. Nothing in the VIN of a 1967 Cutlass will tell you if the car is a real 442 or not. The 442 was only a separate model with a unique VIN in the 1968-71 model years. In 1967, Olds DID use an ACC code on the cowl tag for the W29 442 package (5V) but not all plants put this on the cowl tag, particularly the Fremont plant. As a result, Fremont cars are frequently cloned. In the 1967 model year, the 442 package was only available on the Cutlass Supreme model line, but obviously not all Supremes were 442s.
