Welcome Steve, sweet looking '72. But I gotta ask, what is that chrome piece on the lower lip of the rear deck lid, just under the key lock that runs between the tail lights? I don't think I've seen that on any '70-'72. It looks like the trim off a '68 that has been cut short, but your photo isn't clear enough to confirm. Not nit-picking (well, OK a little), more curious than anything.

It's stock, similar to the '68 strip with OLDSMOBILE embossed in it. My '71 Cutlass S has it and I've seen a couple others sporting the same thing. I'm not sure what decided whether a car would receive one.

This is the first picture that came up in a web search for "1972 cutlass trunk". No idea what trim level this is but I know there were quite a few different deck lid trim versions.

Cool, thanks VI Cutty. I never really noticed that one before. I know my '70 C/S vert only had a thin chrome strip that ran along the lower lip from edge to edge, and I've seen them with individual "O-L-D-S-M-O-B-I-L-E" letters across the deck lid. A quick browse through Google images seems to indicate these strips were more prevalent on the '71-'72s (didn't find one on a '70). I need to get out more.

Nice car. The finish on the paint and that year are really great! I look forward to hearing more about your projects. Great photos.

Welcome aboard to the Forums. I am not very active, but I joined to gather advice for when I get a chance to rebuild my '71 455 marine engine.
I guess we could consider our Olds stuff to be "Essential" for sanity sake. hahahaha
Best of luck and health !
