Welcome to the site! If you have some way to document the j2 setup was ordered from the factory on the 4 door I'd agree. But if not, then put it on whichever car you want to run it on.
Post pictures of your cars when you can. We'd all enjoy seeing them.

x2 on the documentation comment. I am old enough to have remember 1957. Even then, our family was "strtictly Oldsmobile," so I was well aware of the J2 option. I can tell you, one sees buku more J2 setups than ever existed back in 1957!

No way a four door will ever be worth as much as convertible, assuming similar condition, regardless of the J-2 issue. Was the J-2 available on every series that year?
You don't say which Olds you have, but a 57 Super 88 4-door post in #3 condition ("car show" condition) WITH the J-2 option is worth about $15,000 according to the Old Cars Price Guide. A similar condition '57 Super 88 convertible without the J-2 is worth about $34,000.
Put the J-2 wherever you want and enjoy it.

I own a 57 2dr Ht J2, also a 66 442 L69. I would think it would be difficult to document a J2 without the origional sales info. But even if you could, in my opinion, there is no way a 4dr J2 sedan is worth anything close to a 57 convert. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of J2 set ups available. If you are keeping the 4dr I would follow ebay and buy a set up, most are pretty reasonable. Duane

It depends on the model.
Old Cars Price Guide for #3 condition '57 Olds convertibles with J-2:
88: $41,000
Super 88: $47,000
98 Starfire: $83,000
The OCPG value for a #1 condition (better than showroom new and not driven) 98 Starfire convertible with J-2 is $185,000.
