Here I go again!
Hi Folks,
I just bought a 67 442 coupe but don't have it home yet... waiting for decent weather. (Minnesota) My first brand new car was a 67 442. Oops, that kind of gives away my age category, doesn't it? I had it for 2 years and it's taken 41 years for me to find another one I like. I've always liked Oldsmobiles, my first car was a 1948 4 door 98 when I was in high school and since then I've had a 49 2 door, 53 convertible, 57 2 door HD 88, 57 2 door coupe, 58 4 door HD, and a 62 4 door Starfire. I hope to get the new one home on Thursday this week, if the weather cooperates. I took one picture of the car when I was looking at it. Let's see if I can get it posted here. I'll shoot some more when it's in my garage.

Hey Jim,
Welcome to CO ! I'm a full-size Olds guy but I love the 442's as well and the '67 is my favorite year! Looks like a really nice car and I'm glad you were able to find one like your original. Best of luck with her!

firefrost gold.... The car is in Blaine right now and I'm up by Mille Lacs Lake. Funny.. we drove to Gladwin, Michigan (1300 miles round trip) to look at a 67 and found one only 2 hours away. I was looking through some old slides a couple of weeks ago and ran across this one taken in the fall of 1967. Couldn't afford a house but my new 442 looks good parked in front of that little trailer house.

The Long Trailer
Didn't Lucy collect rocks or something like that? Don't know where I would have put anything collectible in that little blue house, it was 8 feet wide and 32 feet long. Lived in it through 4 years of college and 2 more years after that. Cheap housing! Allowed me to drive that wonderful new 442.

Here's what I sold in order to get the money for the 442. It wasn't as nice as it looks. My wife was a little sad to see it go, it was basically her car. I think she'll be more than happy with the olds, she's kind of a hot rodder. Way back I put a 396 with a TH450 and a 4.56 posi in a 60 vette and she used to take it downtown looking for GTOs to blow away.

your going to need some over load spring for that load. I lived in one while I worked in town and wife went to school in duluth back in the day Was content thn and am content now. getting dicey on getting it picked up now

I once told a Vette owner that I guess his car was OK if he couldn't afford a metal car. He was acting all important while we looked over a rusty 66 Toronado, so I had to get back at him.
I think you made a nice change, even though one car I remember very fondly was a 67 L88 coupe with factory side exhaust (a friend owned it in the 1970s).

It's home!!!
Drove to Minneapolis yesterday and came home with the Black Beauty. Took a couple of pictures this morning. It's cold in Minnesota, below zero at our house today but has warmed up to 1 above zero at 12:30 PM. That's exhaust, not smoke.
The car is going to need some time spent on it. If you look at the wiring under the hood you can see why.
It needs some time spent on the wiring under the dash also. One other thing that has to be taken care of is the rear bumper. Fortunately, I have a brother that works at the local plating shop.
Looks like I'm going to have to find a radio to replace the ill fitting one that somebody stuck in the hole for the original. Any ideas where to start looking?

Go original and buy a RediRad from Brew City Engineering.
Very simple install. And it will hook up your MP3 Player or Ipod.
$100.00 for the RediRad and you can find a radio for $25.00 dollars on EBay.
Keep it clean.Too pretty of a car to start cutting.

I actually just bought 3 of the RediRad's...one for each of my 98's and one for my daily driver. I've always been one for keeping the stock appearance and functionality of cars and the radio is a key part of that. So far, I'm very happy with the RediRad's. Simple installation and you've got all the tunes you could ever need.

You may want to call S&M Electro-Tech in Blaine MN. He may have an original. I just pulled my radio from my 88...I am going to have it rebuilt and FM added.
ask for Greg www.turnswitch.com.
So tell the truth how was the car in the snow!!!!

Craigslist. I think I looked at every 442 for sale online between Detroit and Denver in the last couple of months as well as every Cutlass convertible. My wife would rather have a convertible so I'm still looking every now and then.

A Couple of Interior Shots
Here are a couple of shots of the Black Beauty's interior. It's not too bad. The lower door panels on both sides were butchered up when a previous owner installed radio speakers. Since I don't have a heated garage, I put the car away for the winter and will start the "fixing" in April. Have a good winter guys.
Long Live Oldsmobile!!!
