Question help out a gal please

Hi! I am new to this and I don't know how things work, or what I am doing yet!
I have a beautiful 72 Cutlass Supreme that I have just started taking to shows and cruise-in's. The guys at these shows that I ask all sorts of questions to have been more than helpful. I've been given web sites and advice on where to look for parts, paint care, etc...
I ordered some "reproduction" parts from one recommended site, and they arrived yesterday. All look beautiful to me! I ordered a reproduction front bumper, as they hit something with the one on my car now and it's bent - my question is - will I have any problem putting this bumper on my car? I'm going to take all parts to a body shop to be put on, as they know what they are doing and I don't, and I don't know anyone I would trust to put them on for me! I don't want to go in with this reproduction bumper and have them think I'm just another dumb girl with a car, ya know?
I really don't have anyone to help me with things like this, so any info would be appreciated! I guess I need some reassurance that I didn't mess up too badly! Thanks so much!!!

Welcome to the site! This is the best place to visit for Olds info!
If it is a good repro, it should just bolt right on, providing that there is not any more damage to the car. Any body shop can do that, as these cars are pretty easy to work on. Even a local service shop or a "weekend wrencher" should be able to change a front bumper if there is no frame damage. The lights will need to be removed and tranfered to the new one. A wide pice of carpet on the ground in front would be nice to avoid scratches on the new bumper while installing it.

Nothing wrong with just being "a gal with an Olds"! Main point is that you have one. Post some pics when you get a chance...

Let us know where you are. You never know maybe someone is close by and can save you some money on the labor at the body shop.

I'm not sure if this is how I respond! Not familiar with how to navigate around. Thanks for the welcome and answers! I am in Ohio - not far from Akron. Among the things I ordered is a new stone shield that I will have to have painted - thus the reason for going to a body shop! The one on the car is cracked at the bottom - you can't really see it - must have happened when they ran in to whatever they ran in to! My goal is to get a trophy at one of these shows! I get so many compliments on her, but no trophy. As soon as I figure out how and have the time, I will put a picture of her on here. My daughter probably knows how to do it! Me, I'm technologically challenged!

The stoneshield usually breaks when the bumper is flexed from even a minor impact. Easiest way to replce it is while it is off the car. This will need to be painted the same as your car. You might ask for a small touch-up bottle of that paint so you can also touch up minor dings and chips.
You seem to be navigating around just fine... Your daughter will be a BIG help on the PC!

I'm actually in the Twinsburg/Macedonia area - where are you? I thought about the Carnation Mall show, but there are 2 other local shows that day also. I really hate to drive her any long distances - i worry about trucks and rocks! I'm trying to play with pictures now, but can't get any of my files to upload. I keep getting an error message!

Well I must sign off now Thanks to all of you for welcoming me and for taking time to talk to me! Hope you all have a nice weekend and I look forward to talking again next week! Hopefully I'll figure out how to put a picture of the "prettiest one" on here. Am heading to a show in Kent on Sunday - maybe I'll get my trophy!

Welcome.
I'm in southwest Bainbridge Township, 15 minutes away?
What show in Kent?
I may be there if it's nice, red '68 GTO convertible.
If we're in the same class I have to say I'm sorry for my opponents loss ahead of time.
Actually I don't enter anymore, I'm a big-hearted guy so I decided to give others a chance at fame and glory.

If you need any help cutlassgal I'll be more than glad to give assistance, just let me know, got tools?

The Carnation Mall show is next weekend wmachine?

I'll be there, the guy with the Homer Simpson "I'm Here for the Beer" t-shirt on.

Yup! I'll take the Jetstar 1 weather permitting, but I'll be there regardless.
Hope to see you!

Welcome to the forum. We are all friendly here and don't bite, well most of us don't. An easy way to post photos is to go to www.photobucket.com and set up and album site (it's free) then upload your photos to the photbucket album and just copy and paste the img code in your post here and you will get big photos like this. Good luck

Welcome

Just thought that I should pop in and say HEY. If you don't mind my asking where did you order the stone shield for your 72 from. I have been looking for some for my 69-98 but had no luck yet. Hopefully you can get some pics on photobucket then post a link. I use flickr and have some pics of stuff I've been doing at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wolfman98/

Let you out early! never seen that before. It was the first hot day in a long time.
Sorry about not getting a trophy but I guarantee you will if your car is clean and pretty.
I never thought I would ever get one. Now I get tired of dusting them off, but it's a good tired.

If it's popular voting let us know and all us CO locals will bring our friends and families and stuff the ballot box.
I would have been there to check your car out but I couldn't find a listing on Big Al's list or the Cruisin' Times site for a show in Kent? I guess they aren't all listed though.

Weather permitting (not raining/threatening or 95 degrees) I'll probably be taking the Vista Cruiser to the Solon Commons mega cruise-in tomorrow. Some laugh at the primer and lack of trim when I pull in but I'm not proud. When they get a closer look at it they usually get down on their hands and knees and beg for my mercy and forgiveness.

Be there or be square.

P.S. You did get a left hand drive bumper I hope?

Oh No Mr. Bill! Did I mess up?? I don't know anything about "left hand" bumpers - I just ordered the one they said would fit my car. I guess I'll find out!
No, the Kent show wasn't on any of the lists. I was handed a flyer last Wed. at the Hudson Cruise In. It was at the Capt. Brady post VFW in Kent. I was in the Solon Charity show on Aug. 1st. Had a nice turn out. I've been to Solon a few times. Don't know if I'll go tomorrow - weather? Who knows!
If they gave trophies on compliments, I'd have a ton of them. My girl is pretty and clean! So, is a "popular" vote same as like the "peoples choice" vote? This is still new to me.
Are you going to Carnation Mall this weekend? There is a show in Ravenna and also one in Aurora the same day - I'm torn!!
Hey, I've seen a lot of primered cars at these cruise ins - nothing wrong with that! Especially when its an Oldsmobile!!!!

You didn't mess up with the bumper, just testing.
I sort of like the primer, don't have to worry about people scratching it. All those primered "Rat-Rods" stay that way forever, Rat-Vista?
I'm always telling people to get away from my car, the dog that leaped into it was the worst.
My friend went back to his '66 GTO and found a whole Russian family sitting in it once, he yelled at them and they just sat there and smiled.

I was given the opportunity for the last spot at the charity cruise by the club's treasurers kid (who is buddies with my daughter) for the last spot there.
I forgot about it and pressure washed the roof on my house that day, (clean and pretty), and was too tired to get the car (GTO) off the lift and ready to go. I'm old.

Carnation mall is the place to be, there are cars from other states, (Pa ) the whole nine yards. The only Oldsmobiles exclusive show in the area, the thing at Norwalk every year is more for drag racing, unless you want to race it????

I'll be the stupid looking guy in a Homer Simpson, "I'm here for the Beer T-Shirt" at the show.
I was In a Simpson's "Spider-Pig" T-shirt last year.

"Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig, does whatever a Spider-Pig Does"

Nice car

I see the damage is not as bad as I thought and probably the replacement bumper with stone shields should be all you need , though it's really hard to tell until you take it off. they all do have the ability to move slightly up or down , in and out so it probably is ok since it looks like a small dent just on the passenger side of center from what I can see.

My fuel tank sprung a leak and the township tore up the end of my driveway to put a pipe in and left about 6 feet for me to get out. The gods are telling me not to take my car to Solon. I already have the fuel tank out and I'm taking it to the radiator shop tomorrow for repairs, oh ratselfratz.

I'll hoof it there if it's nice out.

Thanks again for the compliments! She needs a few things, but I am proud! Yes Wolfman, it's just a small dent kind of on the passenger side, but enough to have cracked the stone shield down low, and cracked the grilles also. Not really noticeable, but I got replacements to be put on too.

So tell me guys, are the headlight bezels what they call "anodized"? Kind of dull looking? I just usually wipe them with a damp cloth, but is there something I could put on them to make them look not as dull?

One more question, I bought a set of wheel well moldings - I need the front passenger side one - and when I have these put on, is there anything I should make sure they do? Or, do they just take off the old ones and put the new ones on? I don't know if they're supposed to put like sealer or anything around the screws or anything under the moldings. I just want to make sure nothing gets messed up! The moldings weren't cheap!! Thanks!
