Grade 1-10 is best
Original Paint
Absolutely no body work all door, trunk and hood edges show no rust. No water damage anywhere on the body it is practically virgin. Body is straight as an arrow. No dents. Two small scratches right rear fender. Weather strip is excellent.Needs a bath and a wax job. 9.5.
Drive train original, I didn't check but I believe it is a 2 barrel but not sure. Car starts fine, nice idle and no strange noises. Nothing messed with in the engine compartment. Service was managed by Olds dealer. 9
Frame area has corrosion however it does not look deep. I suspect a steel brush would clear it up. 7
Interior is Pristine no tear or ware on seats, carpeting, headliner or door panels. Dash is complete except for small hand button on heater wand. 8.5-9.
Have not test driven yet but looks fine. No major dripping underneath, engine trans and rear end.
General condition is surely an 8.5 to a 9.5.
I have never seen a car this straight this old.
I would call this a very, very, nice survivor and that is what I am looking for. I prefer cars that are correct with very few questions and this looks like one.
The owner is asking $20,000 firm.
What do you think?
Thanks
Wayne
I tried to add pictures and it would no upload.

You probably going to have to resize your pics to post them.
Sounds nice! 4bbl is standard on the supreme but you could have received a credit going with 2bbl. But so are strato-buckets. IMO green kills the value!
I think the (other) Eric is spot on with pricing.

My assesment is
I love the green (sorry pat
) car looks super nice and clean, but its not a 442 and its not a big block or a 4 speed
I agree w the above posts ~$ 8-10k is what it will bring, I do value the survivor aspect but theres a ton of nice olds to be had for 10-20K and this one is a somewhat pedestrian supreme.

So best as I can understand is that for twenty thousand bucks I need to look at at least a 442 or another model that is a high performance, well optioned car. Anything else should be in a much lower price range 8-10k even though it has original paint, unmolested body etc. Well I appreciate your input guys. Have a nice new year.

Yes, a 442 would be worth closer to $20k. Its not so much the condition of this car, its what the car is. Its a low option Cutlass with low miles that will probably need all the same parts replaced as any other old car simply due to its age. It will probably need, a timing chain, valve guide seals, water pump, body bushings, front end work, tires, brakes, etc... Do you see where I'm going here? So when you start by paying way too much for the car, it will be virtually impossible to recoup any money spent on the car to make it serviceable. Yes, most of us buy and fix up cars with our hearts, however love only goes so far.

The market is recognizing "Survivor" level cars more and more. At the very high end of the Muscle Car market, Hemi Cudas, ZL1 Camaros,L88 Corvettes, Shelbys, Yenkos etc, the more of a survivor it is the more value it can have.
I believe this car may be worth more than most have stated, but because it is more of an enthusiasts car than a collector car the price will not reflect a huge premium.
In the past 5 years, I have had customers who collected the best of the best restored cars move towards collecting the best and most original cars they could find.
I don't think you will find too many similar quality "survivor" 442s for $20k, but the stated price does seem strong IMO.
I recently ran across an amazing Survivor 1964 Jetfire 2 door coupe. 13000 original miles, with only two owners, manual three in the tree V8. All mechanical and maintenance done, ready for cruise nights and or car shows..........problem is it's not a car collectors are chasing.

Help in assessing price for a car purchase.
Stefano, thanks for your reply. I have owned several Corvettes in my lifetime and each was a correct car although they weren't concourse. There was a high recognition of correct cars and there was a premium relative to examining the car by hobbyists. I can't quantify the amount but it did count. So thats why I would likely not buy or appreciate a non correct or modified car. I surely would appreciate virgin steel at least.I have located another 70 that has some premium options and it is a vert. Haven't seen it yet but it will be interesting as the price is lower than the coupe I just looked at. This all started because I am still looking for a 66 Cutlass vert but they seem to be much harder to find. We owned a 70 after the 66 so thats why I chose to look at 70's and it does some to me that 70's seem to be more appreciated than 71's & 72's.
Anyhow I appreciate your interest and I will post any major changes here. Have a nice new year.
Thanks
Wayne
