Hello from Utah! 71 Cutlass S

Hello Folks! I have been lurking about on the site getting some great information for the ongoing restoration of my 1971 Cutlass S lovingly dubbed Catherine.

My wife and I plucked this little gem out of a Wyoming shed and for the past few years have been getting her back to road worthiness. She started off as faded brown with the jams done in blue. Probably the best part was that when we picked her up she was able to drive up the ramp of the trailer under her own power!

Poor girl seems to have been driven into a ditch at some point in her past. During the resto process we had to scrape off several inches of caked-on mud/oil from the bottom of the engine and transmission.

So far we have done a front disc conversion, replaced the intake with a performer RPM and refurbished QJet (which seems to be leaking down into the manifold), and other general suspension maintenance to add lowering springs to the front.

Just posting up pictures now that we got her new coat all cut, buffed, and waxed up.

Nice job, interesting colour combo and I like the attitude the blacked out bumpers give it. I wonder how it would look with the bezels blacked out '72 style as well.

Well that brings back a memory from the 70s. The day I got my drivers license I drove my Dad's 70 Supreme into a ditch.

I like the black and obviously you did a good job on the bodywork because it shows very straight. IMO if you did the headlight bezels like the 72, and then blacked out the horizontal bars on the grill, it would present a little better from head on.

Good job keeping it alive! Hope you're prepared for all the other nickel and dime stuff that now costs $$$$!

Thank you all for the kind words!

As for the 72 style blacking out thought. That was something that did cross my mind a few times. In the end I skipped any extra blacking out to keep some chrome splashes to break up the all of the black.

Just need to finish plumbing the under dash vents, figure a stereo out, find an ash tray door, and then avoid major drivetrain upgrade temptations now. I am totally in the nickel and dime danger zone still.

Are we ever out of the nickel and dime danger zone?

I'm sure I've got an ashtray door or two but you should be able to find one a bit closer and not in Canada!

Love the rear wheel/tire package. Looks tough.
