Welcome! That's a very beautiful car you have there. I really like four door sedans.

Welcome to the forum. You've got a beautiful example of an Oldsmobile. The forum has a lot of knowledge to offer. 38K miles is a youngster.

Perhaps you can help me with a lingering question I have. I was born in New York State and I'm still wondering why NY is the only state that I've ever heard the term "upstate" used with.

Welcome from Pompey NY. Very nice '50. Hopefully car events will return next year and I'll see it at one.

I think those living in Upstate NY make a point stating such to distinguish themselves from those resident in or near NYC. Those living in or near NYC call themselves Downstaters so not to be mistaken for someone who watches Hee Haw. Or as the former mayor of NYC Ed Koch famously said, Upstaters drive their pick-up trucks to Sears to shop for Gingham dresses. Didn't help him when he later tried to run for NY State Governor.

I like it. Stick or HydraMatic?

Am I right 50 was last year for the 76?

South Carolinians refer to Greenville/Spartanburg area as Upstate.

I don't know what Upstate is. When I was a kid I grew up in Mt Vernon. I worked for a moving company in the Bronx. When we went to Carmel, Mahopac, Brewster, etc, that was considered Upstate. Lol. Now that I'm old I laugh at thinking that was Upstate.
I live in Eastchester, 7 minutes from the Bronx border. Never once did I ever say I was a Downstater. I have never heard anyone ever use that term. Maybe those from the Albany area use that term? Lol. Definitely not a City thing for sure. Anyway, I would love to hook up with any New Yorker and cruise!!!
Upstate, Downstate, City, LET'S RIDE!!!!!

Thanks for the complement on the Olds.

In regards to 'upstate', I wish I had the answer.
I believe he term 'upstate New York' is used because people often use New York City as a reference point for where one lives in New York State.
The problem there is how one interprets 'upstate' because upstate could mean anywhere north of NYC!
I live in Rome, NY but not many know when in heck Rome is and when they ask I say it's just west of Utica but then they might not know where Utica is so to make it easy on myself I'll just say I'm from upstate New York - figure somewhere north of New York City!

Hey Neighbor!
I miss my cruise-ins especially the one at Oneida Lake - which by the way is located in upstate NY.
Helluva way to start my first year of retirement but as you said, hopefully all will return next year.
Ya'll take care now, hear?

I use the term 'upstate' because when you say "I'm from New York' people tend use New York City as a reference point to where in New York state you live.
The only problem with that is it means you could live anywhere north of NYC! I've hear people form NYC refer to Newburgh as 'upstate' - which technically it is!
I actually live in Rome, NY but not many people know where in the state Rome is so I'll tell them it's just east of Utica. But that's a dumb thing for me to say because Rome is so close to Utica that it's sometime called the 'Utica/Rome area' so if they don't know where Rome is then they sure in heck won't know where Utica is.
So to make it easy on everyone I just say I'm from upstate - anywhere north of New York City.

Rome is about 4 hours or maybe more from me. That's definitely Upstate. Lol. I'd have to take my truck to come hang up there!! Is all relative right?!?!
Again beautiful ride you have there!!
