Hello all. Just picked up 68 olds delmont 88 for father son project came to site for help points and tips. I'm Chevy guy all my life this car came up from high school friend. I know its history. My 13 year old loves it so hopefully one day will go to him
Welcome to the site! A little harder to restore than other cars as there's not much reproduced for the 1960's full sized. But they are nice to drive! Also knowing the history of a car is cool and not very common! Please keep us posted with your progress and if any questions come up be sure to post them. There's several people here with similar cars.
Gonna try keep her as original as can she runs like a top has 55,000 act miles high school freinds hubby's mom bought it new he got it later on. sat on storage for 13 years. New battery and bottle fresh gas fired right up but trans starts slipping when warms up couple trim pieces are missing have big book of documents n receipts from years. I know were only made in 67,68 was gonna be a tuff build on parts but shes a fine canvas to start with. She got a bath first transmission be next get her to be a driver
Try a fluid and filter change to start and check the modulator vacuum tube. If it continues to slip there are people here who are good with either Jetaway (DL) or Turbo HydraMatic (DSL).
*edit* just saw you've been Chevy. If this car has Jetaway PRNDL be warned it is NOT a Powerglide and has nothing in common with it except for being a 2-speed automatic.

has 350 in it. I was gonna try fluid filter first see if helps or try slap used one in it till this original ones rebuilt. Like get his few cruises with it before summers over with the boy that pull motor trans to replace seals gaskets just to be safe
Any transmission swap will require a BOP bolt pattern on the bell housing. Chevy transmissions will not work without an adapter plate.
yeah I know bolt pattern was differnt just dodnt know what years would work in it I'm told 67-68 delta 88s or the 98s trans will fit but want to be 100%
The Olds full size cars used a long tail trans due to the wheel base and the need to keep driveshaft length down. The 1968 350-powered cars actually used a TH375 trans, which is a light-duty version of the TH400. Most places won't even know what that is, and most rebuilders won't have long-tail transmissions. You can use a long tail TH400, but the output shaft is larger and you'll need a different front yoke on the driveshaft. Also be aware that Olds never offered the 350 with dual exhaust in this car, and due to the location of the steering box, dual exhaust requires a special driver side exhaust manifold. The manifold for the big block cars is reproduced, and others have successfully used it on the 350.
I say make it mechanically sound and have fun with it!
Once you get into paint and chrome then it becomes a "only drive it twice a year" car. No fun, especially for a kid. Remember, he's gonna want to take it out.
