Hello from the Ozarks

Hey, just joined this site. I've been browsing your classifieds for original parts for my "new" '72 Cutlass Supreme.

This is the third 3rd Generation Cutlass I've had, and hopefully I will manage to keep this one out of the ditch & buildings. My previous ones were a '71 and a '70.

It feels so good just knowing I've got a classic car in the driveway again (its been 16 years!!)

I'm sure I'll be here a lot sharing our progress as we restore her and seeking advice. Glad to have found a site specific to classic Oldsmobiles.

As she sat in Springfield, IL

The interior was molded from a leak & there's some crazy stuff going on with wiring...

Under the hood.

Since she got home.

Here she is after just a little TLC. Note the authentic Hillbilly landscape, lol.

Still unsure of where all its leaking but we cleaned out mold for now. Once leaks fixed she's getting a new floor pan & carpet.

The engine is painted blue as was the color for the 455, is that what you have, or is it a 350 painted blue?

I found it on craigslist & my husband bought it for me It was an 8 hour trip so I sent my step-dad after it. When I finally got to see her, she was pretty much as he & the seller had described her. She needs a lot of interior stuff, but mechanically & body wise she's looking good for a 44 year old gal! She fires up on the first lick & sounds lovely with her 4 bbl. The paint job is poor, so a new one is in her future. As you can tell from interior shots, the original color was red, but I do like her in black. Still struggling with what color to do...

Needs some inside hardware & a couple of pieces of outside trim, which I'll eventually list in the wanted section. Will be re-upholstering & getting floorboards fixed. They aren't awful, but rusted enough to justify complete driver & passenger replacements. We may do a full replacement just because. I need to remove the tint from the side windows if anyone has pointers on getting all the residue off.

My previous cars didn't need any work at all, so I'm new to actually restoring a car. I want to use as many original parts as possible & don't want to stray too far from what she came out as (I want to decode her plate thingy sometime if anyone knows of online keys for them, please share link). Someone has changed it to a floor shift but left the column shift steering column & the speedometer has gears listed on it, which was frustrating as that wasn't mentioned. I think that means it has a different tranny too, right? The engine has been rebuilt but is supposed to match the cars numbers.

I bet that was more details than anyone cared for. Sorry, I'm a little long winded sometimes. Wait till you meet my husband

I will keep posting her progress as I have time.

It's a 350 Rocket. Must have painted it when rebuilt.

Well, it rained pretty good overnight, and since she doesn't have a place in the garage yet, she spent the night in it. I checked this morning for wetness and found just one place where water had dripped onto the emergency break pedal, I'm supposing from the windshield seal. Not to bad. We planed on putting new seals in that & the back glass anyway. I did realize that she's a Supreme, not an S like she was sold as. I'm happy about that. Anyway, she has several appointments this week & I have several questions I plan to post in their specific category. Very happy with how things are going. Thanks to everyone who has commented on my posts & replied to my wanted listing!!
