Hello (NEW)

Hello ...I have an 1986 Oldsmobile 442. Im from IL
Got a ? on my trans , I seem to have to floor the car for it to shift from passing gears. Not sure if there is a module on these 200 R s
I looked and cant find it. Im thinking a vaccum problem. The car has 62,000 orig miles. The bad....Its a very clean rust free car, the engine started knocking,I replaced the hydro lifters becuse 2 were bad. It ran fine after that but its knocking again. It drives and starts right up. Oil pressure is at 30 . I was getting on it the other day and thats when the trans started acting up. So maybe the bearings are about to go, Not sure. Starting to lose intrest in her.
Its a astro roof car. Very rust free and super clean.

First off, welcome! IMO, that car is pretty clean to loose interst in!! Might be worth an engine/trans rebuild.

That is the nicest looking G body car I've ever seen! I'd love to have it myself. I'd drop a different engine in trans in it just to get it going again.

Do you do any mechanic work? It's not a big deal to change engines or transmissions in these cars. I've had a couple of these cars myself. One I put a 400 small block Chevy in it. Then, later on, I put a 455 Olds in it.

Thanks I have a 68 Olds 350 on stand by, But I want to keep it all original, But cant get why a low milage car has so many problems. All this just started last year. I brought the car 5 years ago with 40,000 on it.

I hear ya on the low mileage thing. I've got a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire with 170,000 km on it that won't run. I think it's jumped it's timing because everything else has been replaced and it still won't run.

I'm surprised to hear your car doesn't work very well because those were the last of the reliable GM cars. Once everything went front wheel drive, around 1988 and up, GM cars and trucks turned to crap.

For the tranny, have you adjusted the throttle valve cable? There is a cable at the carb that you pull the housing back (it clicks) and press the gas pedal to the floor and it clicks back but to the right position.

As for the knock, a clogged EGR valve can cause that, or the timing is off. However with that few miles, a clogged EGR should not occure unless something else is wrong to cause it to clog early.
I assume there are no check engine light...

I replaced the EGR a while ago just for the heck of it with a ac delco part. The check engine light is on than off since I had the car. The TPS was bad thats what the code said but replaced it and rebuild the carb but light still went on. I had all 16 lifters replaces becuse when the knocking first started. 3 of the lifters where bad and 1 push rod . Car ran fine after that for about a year, than one day while driving the noise came back. The knocking start after the engine heats up. Its on the right side and It seems to becoming from the bottom end, but the oil pressure is at 30. I replaced the lifters with autozone parts, not sure if that makes a differance but it was all I could find at the time. Thanks for the help.

If you weren't so far away, I'd love to have it. It would cost me more to get it home than you'd want for the car.

drove the car around the block and this thing is strugling to shift in to a passing gear. As if a vacumme line is out. But when I adj that cable for the trans again, I pushed the tab and held it and slid the slider back it wouldnt go anywhere it stayed sticking out even after I put the pedal all the way down. Maybe im doing it wrong

It could be the vacuum line that runs from the back of the transmission to the intake. I had a 79 Trans Am with a 403 Olds and the thing wouldn't shift. I was ready to take it out until I noticed the steel vacuum line was almost broken off. I changed that and it shifted fine.

Look at the passenger side of the transmission and see if it has that vacuum line.

Did you actually get the pedal to the floor? I remember long ago when i did it it was a bit stiff, so it took a bit of pressure on the pedal to move the cable adjuster. It made a clicking noise that confirmed its movement.
