Hello from a FNG from ND
Well, I finally can afford to buy a "muscle car" with everything being relative. I am not going to lie and say my first love was an Oldsmobile Cutlass; as I am a fan 1969 Chevelle SS 396 above all. But I could not afford to buy a Chevelle in decent condition; the prices have at least tripled since I was in college (some 16 years ago). But with that said the body lines of the 1970 Olds Cutlass S are not too far from the Chevelle's. And that, along with price, is what primarily drove me to get the car.
I should take possession of the Cutlass (pic in signature line) in about a month or so. And as I have never owned this type of vehicle before, I hope to have all my questions answered via this forum. From what I have read so far, this is a very informative site.
Glad to be here and plan on inundating the forum with a bunch of questions.

Welcome to the site Shaun! Hopefully once you get your Oldsmobile it will grow on you like they have for the rest of us. I've owned other makes of cars in the past, but never got attached to them like I have to Oldsmobiles.

Welcome you will enjoy it. Remember olds engines are totally different than che*y. Even the firing order is different. The good is the engines are very strong and make great torque.

Welcome.
Olds is about the same as chebby.
That's what you don't say here.
I just had to go dig my manual out to make sure I got my firing order right.
The distributor goes the other direction, the firing order isn't any different?
The number 18436572 has been ingrained in my membrain since my yute.

Thanks for the replies and info. I am looking forward to working on the car as soon as possible.

Truth be told I only know what the current owner is telling me as I have not seen the car in person.
Apparently it has the original 350 motor (53,000 miles) and rebuilt TH350. It has the shifter on the column. It has new paint and apparently only needs new wheels and front seats recovered to make it a respectable ride.
The current owner does not know a lot about cars so he is not sure if it has the original carburetor or if the carb is a 4 barrel or 2 barrel. I guess he is the second owner of the car.
I am looking forward to getting it. Of course, it will have to wait a little bit until this wonderful North Dakota winter weather subsides.

That's the car. And sorry, I like the Cragars too. So, I will be keeping them. They do have rust on them, so I think I will have them powder coated. There is a guy up here that does good work, so I think I will give him a try. I just need to figure out what color/finish to use.
