Thumbs up Hello From Finland / 76 Cutlass S 442

Hello from Finland!

Next friday i acquire my second american car. First was years ago, cheapest one with fresh MOT, needless to say it broke in a week, conrod through block....

Its an 1976 Cutlass S 442. It has swivel bucket seats and diff lock,
not much else. Original buildsheet follows thought, so i can check it later. Technically its a 350+350. Pretty much complete car and rustfree.
It drove beautifully when i test drove it.
Car was bought from first owner in Arizona and sent to Finland. Thanks for preserving it Only paint has ´burnt pretty badly, but it adds to nostalgia.
Exited to get it to my hands.

Yeah, the Arizona sun is brutal. Paint and interiors can suffer badly if left out for extended periods of time.

Welcome aboard.
Paint is an easy fix. When you do that, I'd lose the aftermarket body side moldings. They were never offered on the 442 and detract from its overall appearance.

Love the swivel bucket seats.

Thanks for everyone.

May i ask what those aftermarket body side moldings are, i dont know and wont see them when comparing to google pics ??

Yea, paint is easy, when the time comes. It might take some time thought,
just bought a house and minor repairs here and there, just doing new roof. That was actually one reason i came back to cars from motorcycles, since now i have my own garage, no need to rely on others and pay rent for them + traveling there.

Have a look at this factory brochure excerpt, then look at the side of your car. Easy comparison. The added ones on your car were a previous owners attempt to reduce the number of door dents from parking lots. With cars of the 70's era having monstrously big doors that was prevalent. Most cars now have shorter doors and better designed body side impact strips.

BTW, welcome to "Home Ownership". It's great as long as it doesn't turn into a moneypit. Nice that you have a garage to work in. Heated?

The only bad thing about those aftermarket side moldings is they are either riveted or screwed to the car (under the rubber insert). That would require welding the holes shut before refinishing. IMO it would look a lot nicer though.

Today i got it.
What a pleasure to ride.

Anyways, down to option codes my car has, copied straight from the order brochure etc i got, original. Found few which were not even listed.

64X, 199, AN7, AO1, B82, B83, B96, C60, d33, df3, d55, FE2, GUI, JL2, L34, M38, N41, N71, OCF, UM1, UN9, U76, W29, Y72, Y74 external moulding, so after all, are my mouldings then all original? They looks the part for me, and as last 55A.

Happy to join on board. Ill take pictures tomorrow when its not dark outside.

Nice find, I think you will have many years of enjoyment with your 76. These cars go forever without many engine issues. They are indeed a pleasure to drive.
Congrats

Yesterday i put this on heated shelter over winter.

Total km's covered were ~1000km on my hands.
All enjoyable kms. And all worked!

Also i got pretty good grab of things needing to be sorted out, here comes the list. If you have something to say about some thing partially, please do so.

1. Change all door seals. I got a set of brand new ones. Im still pulling back since i think i want to paint it first.

2. Window washer isnt working- didnt even care to take too much look on it yet

3. Left front tire is keeping weird screeching noise time to time. Theres new bearing, nothings touching brake disc.. And all new brake parts too.
Needs inspecting where it comes. Its weird since it comes and goes.

4. Shop for few parts. Interior roof light for example, and trunk floor mat for starters. And right c-pilar lower plastic.

5. Install hood correctly, now its not sitting in Place due to improperly assembled hinges.

6. Obviously id like to get it re-painted.

I think theres all i aim for next year, ive learned -> dont try to do too much at a time. Last pics before storaging:
