Talking Hello everyone, nice to meet you all

Hi everyone. They call me Raven and I recently discovered your forum after purchasing my first restoration project. I purchased a 1940 oldsmobile series 90 in 45a vagabond blue and profoundly rusty and am not only learning restoration but also learning cars in general. I purchased an inline eight because they tell me it's easy to understand. What they didn't say was you can't find any information about them LOL!

I have pieced together that my engine is a replacement made by pontiac sometime between 1938 and 1948. I havn't been able to decode the numbers on the engine so I'm not sure if it's a 249 or a 268 or maybe something completely different. All I know for sure is it's an L-head straight 8.

So please try not top laugh too hard when I ask the obvious or profoudly silly questions. You'll laugh hard enough when you see my beloved wreck on wheels to make up for it!

Bye for now and again it's wonderful to meet you all

Smile Welcome

This site is great for those of us who are Olds enthusiasts but not so much Olds mechanics. I have a 69-98 that I bought last year and is my first Olds but I really love the car and have depended on this site to help me do work on my car that I would not have otherwise been able to do. There are a lot of guys on this site and a few women who are very , vey , very helpfull without being judgemental because everybody starts somewhere , sometime and having a place you can go to get info on your car is invaluable. So to all those who do pass on their knowledge , and there are many , many thanks You have found a good place raven

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I look forward to meeting you all and seeing you cars as well. I've already seen some amazing cars just in the avatar pictures. Reading the posts I can see there really is a lot of information to be found here too.

I think I have my first question. As popular as they are with collectors, why is there so little information on pre war cars? You can find anything for a model t up to about 1932 but after that it just becomes a blackhole.
