Hello from BC
Hi to all Olds lovers! I'm an old fogie from Canada (BC) who had a 65 Dynamic88 for a first car and loved it. It got totalled by a moron who didn't know how to drive in the rain (and we get a fair bit in BC) and it broke my heart. Never had a car to compare to it, not even my little 67 Mustang or 65 Studebaker Hawk. I dated my present wife with that silver 425 powered beast, and then 10 years later (after we'd long been apart) wound up married to her, then kids etc. Now we're "older" and I need a new car and want to recapture some of those glory days. I'll be looking for a nice 65-67 442 or Cutlass-I just love the style of those guys! (Altho the 71-72 are sharp too!) I'm keeping it a little surprise for her so don't anybody blow it! I should probably change my email address right now-it'll be Donaldiancox@gmail.com ! I'm hoping for a Canada purchase, but the wife has relatives in Florida, so may try to swing a deal down there, get it inspected and then pick it up! I did see a Pat Mills up here who has an awesome-looking 66 442 with a 67 Toro engine with the L69 tri-carb setup on it! I'll probably start with him, but it's a little pricey for my budget. I do check Hemmings, AutoTrader and ClassicCars regularly so who knows?
I absolutely love this website-I've looked at several forums and can't believe the wealth of knowledge out there and how giving you guys are! I hope I won't need much or any advice, but it's sure nice to know the help is out there!! With our modern cars, there's not a lot the home handyman (which I hesitantly call myself) can do-it's take it to the dealer and pay thru the nose! My Olds is never going to a shop (altho I do have a mechanic who races etc so may need his services occasionally) so I hope to do everything to it that it needs-from washing it weekly to a power-disc conversion if it's called for-and I've seen threads here covering those topics and almost everything else! This baby is going to be a daily driver too, so it's got to be reliable and safe (plus good for a 10 foot strip of rubber at the stoplights!!
) I've never believed in trailer queens-you DRIVE the things-to shows, to cruise nights, to the drag strip, to work daily, whatever! I can't wait to see the look on her face when I pull up in the "new" beast whatever color it is, whatever model or trim level. It's nice to see there's lots of beasts out there-they may not make 'em anymore, but maybe we can all keep the Olds name alive one rubber patch at a time! Talk to you all soon! DynoDon88
