Hello - 68 Hurst/Olds
Hello - 68 Hurst/Olds
I'm new to the Classic Olds forum. I used to have a '68 Hurst/Olds that I had to unfortunately sell back in 1999/2000 in South Jersey. My '68 HO w/air was from Coleman Olds in Trenton NJ and I was the third owner. I don't remember the sequence # of the car, but it was registered with H/OCA at the time. The last I saw the car was in Cinniminson NJ. My son (11) and I are working on a project car now and I will start looking for another '68 H/O. Maybe the same one - who knows. I would love to see it again. I added an old picture of my 68 H/O.

Welcome to the forum and good luck finding your '68 and getting it back home.
That will be fun project for you and your son, as well as a great lesson on patience. Keep us posted on the updates!

Welcome to the site, I grew up about a mile from Coleman in Trenton. I remember seeing a 68 Hurst and my buddy's repair shop (Freeway Garage) about 20 years ago. He said it had an oiling problem, don't know if that could have been your car. The story goes that Coleman received 2 H/O's to sell and when they saw sticker price they thought they would never sell them. It was reported a mechanic there snapped one up right away and shortly thereafter the dealership received many calls from other dealers wanting to know if they still had a Hurst for sale, they were in demand and the car was traded or sold to another dealer. This was told to me by a salesman at the dealership which is still in business today.
Guy by me has 4 or 5 68s and 69s, yes 8-10 cars all in good to excellent shape. Yes hes a pig! If you had the VIN or can come up with the H/O sequence number I can go look for you. If hes ready to sell one of his prized possessions Ill pass it along.
That is the car, your story is correct. In 1968, the mechanic purchased the H/O as soon as it came in. I didn't know about the second car. After I bought the H/O in the late 80's I met the original owner. He was still a mechanic at Coleman Olds at that time. I purchased the protect-o plate and original invoice for the car.

I don't have any VIN or sequence numbers. If the H/O was purchased from South Jersey within the last 10+ years, it could be there (Texas?) If the car wasn't touched, it would have a blue drivers fender and blue motor (I had to change the head gaskets and all I had was blue paint at the time). Is he a collector, hoarder, or Olds guy? For someone having that many 68/69 H/O's is interesting. I am not looking now, but if he does offer to sell one, I would appropriate letting me know.
