Thanks for having me be a part of your club. I own a 69 442 and plan on enjoying it soon. It needs an overhaul and I am having trouble locating a nodular crank for it as i want it to be as close to original as possible. Engine is a 400 cid. Does anyone know where I can locate a crank? the one in it now was ruined by the previous owner who thought it a good idea to run nitrous on the engine. thanks for any suggestions.

Love the 69's and also hope you will have it running like new soon enough. Some of the others on this site are experts on engine rebuilds so I'll leave that up to them for recommendations on the crank. You might also have to look at the cam BTW.

When you get a chance please post some pics of your new car and maybe give us your plan for it's future?

 

Thanks, i will post pics next time i get it out of the shop. I am going through the engine from the air cleaner to the oil pan and all will be put back in new shape as needed.

 

Sounds good. What are your skill levels?
Something you will find very handy for working on your car is:
a) 1969 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual (CSM)
b) 1969 Cutlass/442 Assembly Manual (AM)

Both are available as original or repro books. Just Google the titles on ebay or the web. Worth their weight in gold. I prefer the hardcopy versions - originals are best even if they're slightly soiled because the images are crisp instead of photocopied. The AM is produced by Millenium Industries. Has great detail pics and schematics of all parts of the car.

These are what they look like (obviously not to scale - both are 8 1/2X11 publications) The CSM is about 2" thick.



You can probably get both of them for around 60-70.00 combined.

The aftermarket has lots of parts to have your 400 rebuilt, pretty much any way you'd like to. I'm sure a seperate thread looking for "400 rebuild help" would get you some good advice too.

Thanks for the tips allan, my skill levels are at professional levels on all but paint have been working on all types of mechanical and industrial equipment for 30+ years, am a good machinist and fabrication guy too as long as its steel i can deal with it.
