Hello
Hello
Hey I am dan, and I am looking for my first muscle car. I had my heart set on a 67-68 cougar, but I started to think how much it would cost to replace the 289 engine. then I saw a 442 at the Mecum auctions in St charles IL. so I am now looking for one of the 2 cars. I have around 5k to spend, I work for the railroad so time sucks for me and I would like something in my garage to tinker with for the winter. I am looking for a car that I can take to RT. 66 and run the quarter mile with just to see what it has.
The magic of the small block Ford is the same as the small block Oldsmobile. Unless you really know what you are looking for you can't tell one from the other.
Not to discourage you from an Olds, but a 455 will be more expensive to build than a 289 and you can get a 302 that will look identical to the 289 physically, but pack a whole lot more whoopass.
Yeah, I admit it. I dig Mercurys too. Good friend has a couple of 67-8 390 cars and other than the unobtainium parts, Cougars are a nice ride.
Not sure how much 442 you could get for $5k. Too many people think parts cars are worth that.
