Headers

I just bought a 67 Cutlass convertible. It has a 425 in it. Will I have to get custom headers for it or can I buy something off the shelf?

Any off the shelf headers that fit a 1967 442 (with a 400 motor) also fit your combination. The problem is that the 64-67 frames are slightly narrower than those on the 68-72 cars, so most header manufacturers only cover the more popular later cars.

what ever you do dont buy headers by doug, a friend of mine bought some and they hit the frame in three places and the steering shaft. the car has never been hit or damaged in any way. he sent them back to dougs and they said they fit there jig (whats to say there jig is right) so they wouldn't take them back, also the plating on them was terrible. just my 2 cents.

Interesting that you mention your friend had back luck with Doug's headers. I always thought these were some of the highest quality headers you could get. FWIW, I ended up buying Hedman Hedders for my 71 98.

So I was just at a parts place buying some brake shoes for my 66 Dynamic, and the guy at the counter said "oh, I used to have a 66 Delta, I still have some parts kicking around for it".

He told me he has a set of Hedman hedders that should fit my dynamic. He said that the hedders are listed for an olds 98 in the Hedman website. He says he bought them from a guy who was going to use them for his cutlass. I haven't seen the headers, but he said it looks like there was some slight modification done on them.

Any input from you guys? The guy is asking for $20 for them, which would be an awesome deal, but of course I want to buy something that fits my car. Any idea if hedders for a 98 will fit my Dynamic? I have a 425 engine, and I've heard that these hedders can work on a few different sized engines.

The rt side will fit. The left side WILL NOT. You have shift linkage to worry about and the steering box which will be in the way. They may fit a 71 to 75 88 or 98. I do not think a slight modification will get them to fit. You must also be aware of engine size. There are and were no off the shelf headers for a 66 Full size Olds with 425 to my knowledge.

Huh? The Eighty Eight and Ninety Eight are mechanically identical from the firewall forward. If these headers really did fit a 1966 98, they will also fit a 1966 88.

Note the "if". Of course, for $20, what have you got to lose?

Thing is they wont fit a 98 or 88 in 66 as that header was never made and a little tweaking of an A body header wont get it to fit.

True enough... I can take a look at what this guy has, and make an educated guess. And for $20 I don't have a lot to lose.
