Welcome to the site! I'm not familiar with the trans am engine compartment so I don't know if you'll have clearance issues on the top or sides. I'm guessing your car came with an Olds 403 engine, so the motor mounts and where it mates up to the transmission will be the same. As will the fan if you use the same length water pump and the same pullys off the 403. The alternator, power steering pump and AC compressor brackets will all line up the same. The 455 is a little taller and wider though so I don't know if you'll have clearance problems between the air cleaner and the hood. Also you may need to check clearance against the firewall if you have a large AC box on the passenger side, and the exhaust manifolds will go down in a slightly different place due to the engine width. The deck height where the heads bolt on is I believe one inch taller on the Olds big block compared to the small block, and yes the 403 is a small block. Off the top of my head I don't know the width difference, but you can measure the intake manifolds between the 403 and 455 to know if you'll have width problems. Hopefully someone here has done or seen the swap done. Going from a 403 to a 455 would liven up your ride! John

Welcome to the site! Where in TX are you located? There are several of us in the DFW area. The late 70's TA's were sharp looking for sure, especially the 'bandit' series.

Welcome to our site. Sounds like a nice car. My friend had one years ago and took out a 403 and swapped in a 455. I don't remember him running into to many issues, but hopefully someone here will chime in with more info.
