Flag on rearview mirror and back window?

Hello from Edmonton, Alberta!
Last year I purchased a 70 442 W30 from the original owner in Neenah, Wisconson. On the chrome side of the inside rearview mirror and on the inside lower corner of the rear window there is a small decal that looks like a flag. The flag has three stripes of red, white and blue. Each strip is equal in height and wide. The original owner stated the car came from the factory like this. Has anyone seen these flag decals before?
Please advise thanks.

Hey yourself from Edmonton Alberta!! Bustedeb, is your 70 442 orange and white (vinyl) top by any chance?

About the flag, can you post a couple of pics so it's easier to see what you mean? I've never seen flags on cars that weren't put there by the owners (with the exception of the Cutlass Salon - it has flags on its nameplate embem).

What part of Edmonton are you in? I'm up in Castlebrook.

Great to have a fellow Canadian on board! This site is a veritable United Nations of international Olds lovers. Would also like to see the pics...unlikely to be factory...depending on stripe orientation, could be a country's flag such as : France, Croatia,Russia or Holland.....Derek

That is the National Ensign (Flag) of the country of Estoovia in mid-eastern Asia. About sixty Oldsmobiles were built in a plant there from 1974 to 1974 1/2, mostly the special three cylinder nine valve overhead cam equipped Brightstar which vaugley resembled the jetstar of the sixities. Probably you just got the rear view mirror from one of them.

Sorry, I couldn't resist it. For some reason I was feeling kind of ridiculous this morning. Anyway, welcome to Classicoldsmobile and hope you find the answer.

Dutch flag

As I speculated, that is the flag of the Netherlands. My wife is Dutch [from Rotterdam] so I've been taught that " if you're not Dutch, you're not much", to which I respond about her..."wooden shoes, wooden head and wooden listen!!"Derek

Flags

I looked here and couldn't find it. Although it does closely resemble the flag of De Nederlands.I don't know about the stars.

Jamesbo, you've got to quit staring at the sun!...there are no "stars",just little dots, tho' I admit to being unsure what they stand for other than knowing there is NO national flag with them on it.[unless it IS the flag of that strange Asian country mentioned by our imperious leader!]

Wisconsin? I'm with Citcapp, American Motors assembly plant parking lot pass would be my guess, looks just like their logo.

Luxembourg vs AMC

Well, the flag (without the dots) is from Luxembourg Bustedeb, these flags are facing front and back, and their placement is unusual, so my guess is that they weren't added at the factory, they were added by someone else. I have no idea what the two dots represent and can't find anything historical on the web either.

(You were good Oldsguy.....even had me hooked for a few brief moments. I knew you have been around the globe a few times so I was good until the hook sliced into the upper palate of my mouth. pttuiiii. That feeling lingers on even after a coupla cold ones!! Estoovia?? Brightstar??? 3 cylinder 9 valve??? production run of 60???? You musta already been through a few brew when ya wrote that???

As far as American Motors AMC goes, I know they used red, white and blue. But they didn't use horizontal bars. They had a stylized logo and "American Motors" or "American Motors Corporation" at the bottom. From 67-74 they just used the solid old AMC at the bottom.

luxembourg vs netherlands

I would have to say that it is closer to the netherlands because of the color of the Blue. Luxembourg seems to be a lighter blue than this flag. i have seen no flag yet with the 2 dots and had to have been added after but why or what they represent is still a mystery.

Flag on rearview mirror and back window?

Thanks for everyones input and replies. I sent a e-mail to the people who helped the original owner sell the car. See the reply below. I guess the answer I received from Nancy last year was correct "It came like that when I purchased it new" just not from the factory. Anyone out there have a car from Bill Hesser Oldsmobile Neenah Wisconsin?

"Those stickers are put on at the dealership. It was just something they did at that time. It was specific to the dealership only.
Hope that helps.

"Hello,

Kelly + John + Nancy!

John could you please review the pictures of the flags attached to the back of the inside rear view mirror and
the back window of Nancy's 442. Do you know anything about these decals? Could you please ask Nancy
if see recalls what these decals signify. Also could you ask Nancy if she put them on or if the car came from the factory
like this.
Thanks
Ted"

Nice to know the mystery is solved! So it doesn't matter if you keep the flags or lose them. What's the plan? Personally I think I'd lose them....
