Finally pulled the trigger!

Greetings from Canada

When I was 18, 24 years ago, I had a chance to buy a beautiful green 69 Cutlass S convertible with a tan top in great shape for $2100 from a motivated seller. Being young I sought advice from my dad, and a banker that thought a $3500 loan (for parts and a little Visa balance) was a bad idea. They both talked me out of it. I've regretted that decision my whole life.

Earlier this month I brought home a 68 Cutlass S in worse shape for more money, but no one has any power over me to say no! It's a project, going to be a driver but that's just what I want. This is my first classic car and I'm learning everything as I go along. I've already used some resources here to sort out a the cowl badge and to see what others have done to their cars. In time I hope to add what I can to those yet to find theirs.

Pics for those interested.

TL;DR Took 24 years to finally get the car I always wanted!

Welcome aboard,
There are a ton of members in the ONT. Great looking car for a project! Oh, use the word 'classic' judiciously - there's been a heated discussion going on about what is 'classic' and what is 'antique' lately...

Love the color. I'm sure you know that hobbies like this are going to eat a lot more than that 3500.00 loan you wanted to get 24 years ago.

Good to know. Don't want to put my foot in it with my first post! I took my queue from the site name so hopefully I get a free pass this time.

My wife wanted me to remove that. No chance.

I think a lot of us can relate to costs.

Welcome to the site, congrats on your project. It looks to be a very solid start.

Let the MAWs (might as wells) and other questions flow. Id start with a punch list of have to haves and want to haves. Safety and reliability items first like fresh tires, brake lines (hard and soft lines). Then go at the chassis such as bushings and steering parts etc...Do the have tos first to get it reliable and road worthy. I hope you inspected it well for the tin worms. Frames, floors and dashs are the trouble areas to name a few. Though from the pics it looks solid. Do your self a favor and try to steer clear of any offshore junk parts. You'll thank me later when you dont have to replace things annually verses rarely.
Year One, Fusick, The Parts Place are good sources for repro parts. So is the classified section here and at 442 dot com. 68 is a one year wonder. Some 67 parts work some 69 parts work. Other GM A bodies have parts in common so look at Pontiac/Buick/Chevy for those common parts. Even the 68 vettes can share some parts.
