Thumbs up Fan of Newer Oldsmobiles

Hi - long time Oldsmobile fan. Previous '65 Starfire owner. Now really into 90s Olds 88 coupes and Ciera wagons.

Welcome. I bought a 96 Oldsmobile 98 and it's my daily driver.

If you specifically like 88 coupes the last year for them was 1991. That would be a difficult car to find now. You probably need to be willing to travel 1/2 way across the nation to find your Olds. Good luck.

I looked it up, and you ain't kidding. Production of the '90 and '91 88 Coupes was practically non-existent compared to the sedans. For both years, there was an 88 Royale and 88 Royale Brougham in both coupe and sedan versions. For 1990, total production of the 88 coupes was 2712 while for the sedans it was 114,111. Coupe sales were so low compared to the sedans that you wonder why Olds bothered to continue to make the coupes. But, as you say, they did for one more year, and the numbers were even more abysmal. For 1991, Olds made only 692 88 coupes while they made 55,555 sedans, which was not even half the previous year's number for that style, either.

So that's a total of 3404 88 coupes over those two years. Typical scrappage rates suggest that 1% of a model's original production is still on the road after 25 years. It's been more than this since 1991, so it's not unreasonable to suspect that there are all of 35 1990 and 1991 Olds 88 coupes still roaming around out there. That seems low to me, but, original production was low, too.

Welcome aboard, interesting car those 88s, reminds me very much of of the late 80s Buick Lesabre T-type which I thought looked cool.

Here is a nice pic of the extremely limited production Olds 88 Coupe.

Welcome to the group... There's some good things to be said about the early 90's Oldsmobile... I presently have a 96 Ciera with only 5K miles...

the red car below is an 89 that was for sale in my area about a year ago and was in much better shape.

But it looks restorable. The interior certainly looks decent. Very cool that you found one. 1990 and 1991 Olds 88 coupes were rare when new and are even more so now.

agreed it just popped up today and the interior isnt bad and as you said its restorable.

someone had posted the production counts for Deltas from 1977 to 1991 awhile back. It included a breakdown of Coupe versus Sedan and one of the most surprising things to me at least was the drop off in coupes from the introduction in 1986 (16%) to 1991(1%) in terms of the overall mix. I know coupes fell out of favor in that time frame but the drop is steep to say the least and even steeper when you look back to the B Body years.
