Fairly new guy, new restoration
Joined Classic Olds a couple of months ago. I currently have a 71 442, 87 Grand National, and am in the process of a 64 442 restoration. I'm trying to figure out how to attach some pictures, so bear with me. Any advice or comments regarding the 64 would be appreciated. I find all of the forums very interesting and helpful.

Hey Randy Welcome to CO. I really like the GN. Those cars are incredible, and have held their value over the years. I had a chance to buy a friends in 1990, it was an 87'. The new wife (just got married in 90') shot it down because he wanted $13,500 for it. I ended up with an 86' Cutlass 442 for about 7500 instead....post pics.

cutlassjoe,
Yes, those GNs are great cars. My son, the Marine did all of th engine work, alot of go fast parts, been dyno'd at around 400 hp. The Olds can take him in the 1/8, but once that turbo spools up, well, it ain't pretty. All I can see is taillights in the 1/4. I built the olds 455 where it's pushing out about 460 hp, but my car is around 500-600 lbs heavier than the GN

Welcome to CO. Those are some nice cars. The '64 is a rare find. With the air cleaner still in tact. It is going to be a great project. Keep the pic's coming of your progress.
Here are a couple pic's of two that i'm working on. I have a third 64 as a daily driver, but no pic's at this moment. As I said keep us in the loop.

Thanks for the engine pic on the GN. I notice the wheels, is that a GNX? The only reason I ask is that a good friend of mine worked at McClaren Egingeering in Detroit. They did all the dyno work on the GNX. Buick would send over the engines, told them to run em' til they blew. Then tell them what broke. They would then build another engine and send it over for the same treatment. I can tell you those engines are practically indestructible. We got to see a couple go on the dyno...omg! Any way cool GN. I have always loved those cars. Especially at the track, because they are so quiet, they kind of sneak up on ya.

Thanks for such a warm welcome
I just wanted to say thanks for such a nice welcome. To Cutlass Joe, no it's not a GNX, but I liked the wheels better than the stock GN Wheels (still have em).
The 71 was my first big block, restored a 69 and 70 Cutlass S. Love those small blocks. The 71 was a cool project as I think I replaced every body panel with the exception of the hood. Not the original motor, I backed the cam up into the block while running a staightaway one evening. This 455 came out of a 68 full size, bored .30, comp cam, eldebrock heads, holley 750 double, hookers, 3.73 rear. Whole lotta torque. Painted a dandelion yellow with black and red stripes, 72 grille and headlight bezels to bring a contrast to that yellow paint. Fun car to drive, lousy gas mileage, but who cares!
By the way, that 87 cutlass is beautiful
