Dropping a line
Thought I'd stop in say hello. Just picked up my first muscle car last Wednesday. I'm excited to start into this project (wish this 100+ heat would decline in Texas). I don't know a lot about the car. I know it was originally a bench seat car with column shifter, but has been replaced with some kind of bucket seat and a factory floor shifter. The Blue interior HAS got to go. I need some good Black stuff if anyone has anything laying around. Body is in good shape and currently in primer. Searching for a reasonable paint guy. Want a driver, not a show car (no need for $10K in paint). Motor is quiet, but I don't know much about it. I was told it was a 425 Toro, mild cam with an 850 Q-Jet. Taking it to get dynoed next Tuesday to get some baseline numbers before I strip it down (I'm guessing 20% drive line loss maybe 300-320HP). I would like to make 450 + rwhp after it's rebuilt. I'm assuming I'll need to find a 12 bolt to swap in to handle the HP I want. Not sure about the strength of the 10 bolt.
I plan on stripping the entire car down (pull motor, trans, glass, interior and exterior trim) this month and get some paint laid down. Then the rebuild begins. Love the site. I've been trying to do as much research as possible before I pull the trigger on any upgrades.
Any suggestions on building this 425 would be great. Figure upgraded rods and pistons, crank girdle, P&P heads, good cam, intake/carb, header with 3in exhaust.

Welcome to Classic Olds and welcome to hell as well!! (Texas in summer that is...)
Sounds like you have quite a project planned. Get started this weekend when the COLD front drops it to the low 90's!
Make up a thread for your project and make updates - we love seeing progress (and pictures of course!)
What city are you near? Im up by Plano.

Ha, it's not much to look at right now, but I'll see what I can get going.
Kinda sad on the dyno results. Crank HP (calculated) was about right, but I was surprised by drive line lose. I hit 240 whp and 270 ft/lbs. We calculated 410 (approx) at the crank, but it gives me a start.
Found a paint guy. The tear down starts in a couple weeks. I hope to have it all back together by spring/summer time.
Any website for interior besides year one?
