Car
68 442 convertible, triple black.
Interesting car, it was ordered with the turnpike cruiser option (2 barrel). Kind of like getting a Diet Coke with your bacon cheese fries.
Bought in 1991 when I was 15, from original owner, have all the paperwork from 68.
It was a survivor at that time. I abused it pretty well from 1991-2003 and the last few years it really wasn't running.
Sent it away for restoration to Iowa and just got it back THIS AUGUST! Spent several times the car's value but it is special so who cares what it's worth (other than State Farm)
When I got the car back in October 2010 the freshly built 400 immediately started ejecting coolant out the tailpipe. I managed to find a local guy to find a junk 455 block and build it like new using some of my existing parts.
I was not excited about doing an engine swap in a freshly painted car but he did it flawlessly. So August finally got to drive it again.
My only issue is that the 455 overheats when the car is idling or moving very slow. Once it's up to 30mph it rather quickly goes to the proper temp. I posted about that elsewhere and got some good tips.
Thanks!

Welcome!
I guess you will have to drive fast and run red lights to keep from over heating.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark...and we're wearing sunglasses.

Taurus fan = ~4000cfm and only $25-50 at Salvage yards or Ebay.
Lincoln Mark VIII fan ~4500cfm the biggest hot shot on market
Ford Windstar fans ~4400 cfm and new on Ebay for $75
Just upgrade your alternator to a newer CS130 with 100-140amps.
They're also on Ebay from a good retailer I know for only $120-$140.
I have a write up I did on Nastyz28 for a cheap controller and 2 stage BMW temp switch.
Let me know if you are interested via PM. Not in this section often.
First off, welcome to the site! Im from the Chicago area also. I had the same problem this summer. I pretty did what Aces High stated but I grabbed a dual fan out of a Dodge Intrepid at the Junk Yard. Wired it up to 2 40A relays. I didnt use a temp switch because I figured that on these older vehicles, the mechanical fan is driven by the WP pulley which is spinning all the time when the car is running anyways. after I installed the fans, the temp has never risen above 190 degrees even in 90-100 degree weather.
