Back under the hood

Meet Phoenix, it needs more work than I can probably handle, but I just can’t let it go.

I wrecked my ‘71 cutlass about 15 years ago in my early 20’s, I spun out on the highway and was hit head on by an 18 wheeler at 80kph or so. The car saved my life but lost its own in trade. I started the restoration immediately but life and other obligations took priority.

Now I’m in my late 30’s and trying to get back into this, but by this point I’ve forgotten more than I learned. I get the feeling I’ll be here a lot.

Good to be back under the hood.

Hey, you got it on all 4 wheels, either it wasn't that bad or you've already completed the hard part. Hitting the 18-wheeler could not have left it very pretty. You've come to the right site, welcome!

Had to cut the frame horns off and add new, motor mounts broken, exhaust damage, transmission can’t hold fluid, complete front end replacement, doors sheared by the hood, windows broken. Surprised it wasn’t worse to be honest.

I really do have to get a new frame before I get much further, the frame is still out of whack, the frame horns were just a bandaid to get it rolling again. Have to see what’s up with the transmission fluid, probably put some UV tracer in it and check for cracks etc.

The bigger problem is that having it sit for so long has just let the structure of the body rust to hell, so it’s pretty ugly under the sheets.
