Another Ontario Olds Man
Hey there people I'm from London ,haven't got a car yet but Im joining the
forum to learn some more about restoring so when i do get one i'll be ahead
of the learning curve. My first real car was a 70 holiday cutlass coupe ,sadly
i didnt keep it ,but since turning 50 I've got the urge to go back in time and
right a regret .I recently spotted a cutlass on kijiji for 2K but it needs a lot of
work ,trunk ,floor and a frame ,not sure yet ,haven't seen it in person yet.
Any thoughts ??

Welcome to the site! If I were you I'd take my time and get the best car you can afford. I don't know what your skills or interests are as far as body work and rebuilding the drivetrain, interior. But I'd encourage you to make a plan of what you want and try to stick with it. As someone who's drug home many rough project cars I know the emotional respose when you find a new toy
. But that's why I'd suggest you make a plan of how much time and money you have to put into your car, and what you want to do with it. Such as restore to original, make a resto-rod, etc. But that said... good luck with your search and HAVE FUN

thanks John for the advice,I know my way around a car ,read a lot ,built a 86 firebird years ago,305 ,5spd ,dart heads ,etc way before kids (3 anyways),just looking to do a resto rod ,not perfect but a driver ,that runs well and is reliable and looks good
To give you something to compare it to, here's a 1970 Rallye 350 that a local guy has for sale. It has some rust, but runs and drives well. I put it on here for him last fall and he hasn't sold it yet. The price here is $3500, but right now its on Craigslist for $4250. So I don't know if I put the wrong price on or he's added something to it
But I'm sharing this to give you an idea of one thats on the market and the asking price. John

that looks better than the one I was looking at for 2k ,looks like a driver for sure I better
keep looking ,I think some people overinflate the prices of these cars thinking that they are going to get them some easy money from it!

Welcome!
John is absolutely right. Don't be too hasty. Decide on exactly what you want and don't settle but buy the best car you can for your budget. My strong advice is to go South! Find a car below the snow belt. It will be worth the shipping to not have to deal with trunk/frame/floor/quarters issues. Texas isn't that far....

Hey, there's lots of good cars in Ontario, why not keep your money close to home, and establish local contacts...just a thought

Second thing? My first thought is - go look at it and see just how bad it is. The Chevy sport wheels don't look right on it, but there are lots of guys on chevy forums who will buy them off you.
The car looks like it has some rust in the usual places, but you won't know anything about the rest of it until you give it an eyeball. Is it close to you? If it's decent, 2K is a good price. Only thing that bothers me is you said it has frame issues. How do you know?
Well, first off - Welcome to C.O.

I bought my cutlass north of ottawa. the frame is RUSTED. needs alot of work, i would honestly tell you to save up a few extra dollars and cents and get something solid.
I see a TUN of cars in the GTA that look really nice.
Welcome to another canadian member!
Hey, Sammy! You're right - there are a lot of good cars in Ontario - I just never found any when I lived there! My 71 Supreme I had in Ottawa looked a lot like your car....
If this car is relatively clean and the plan was to do a body off on it anyway then the frame issue is moot, right? Should be pretty easy to find a decent A body frame to work with.

These frames come up, and run between 1000 and 1500 for a descent one.All depends on your goals and how much$ a guy wants to spend.
I have both bought & sold rides via eBay. I have a car sitting in my garage right now which came to me from NY via an eBay listing. Here it is -

Pros/Cons? Not a lot different that when looking in person, in the sense that you need to really know/appreciate with whom you are dealing.
I always advise that with any purchase where you are not able to lay your very own eyes & hands on the car to shell out a few hundred ($450) bucks to have the car inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at and know what and where to look. Believe me, it will be the best money you have spent in connection with such a purchase.
NEVER/EVER buy an ebay ride based solely on the listing. Talk with the seller. Ask hard questions. Request and require oodles of pics. If the seller is evasive or resists your demands, go no further. That they are evasive and resist tells you something; you don't want to deal with them!

Welcome to the forum! I'm just up the road in Burlington! Nice to see more folks from the GTA joining the C.O.forum. It is a wonderful place for Oldsmobile fans, and much help is very selflessly given here. I would agree with many who have said there are some very decent Oldsmobile vehicles running around the GTA which are very solid, and can be at least safely driven around with attention being given to cosmetics as time and funds allow. To get stuck with a disaster that needs a ton of stuff such as frame removal/replacement and other major work is best passed onto folks who have the shops/parts/time/experience in these matters. You do not want to be stuck with something that may end up discouraging you not too long into the project. Keep looking, these cars are out there! Howie.
May I suggest you start your own thread about this rebuild in the 'Major Builds" forum of this site? Then you could show us your before, process/plans and the details of what you've accomplished to date. Install lots of photos. 68 Toro's are a cool looking car; not too many of them around anymore.
