Another new one
Hello all, Im new here been reading the forum for awhile and learning a lot. I recently in the last 6 months bought a 1964 F85. It was an orginal 6cyl car that a guy supposedly put in a 350 rocket from a 70 cutlass and an automatic trans. Im not sure if thats exactly what it is or not. I am in the process on starting to rebuild it. I am wanting to get as much as I can out of it power wise without breaking the bank. While the engine is out I am working on the front suspension as well. If you know where I can buy olds parts or any inside advice you long time olds fans can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Motor # 395558 2
Heads # 6 403859
Anyone have a decent build for this?

Welcome to CO
Looks like a 425 or 455 check on the deck to the left under the power steering bracket on the head or on the passenger side rear next to the spark plug if its a letter A,B, C its a big block. if its a number 5, 6, its a small block.
Look on the big block thread you will find lots of build sheet information
Good luck

First off, Welcome to the site!! Looks like you have a nice platform to start with! I have the same block (395558 2) with #8 heads . had the motor and trans redone at a local shop (new internals, cam, heads redone, block honed, shift kit in trans, etc...) it is a 68-74 Olds 350 block and it has PLENTY of power for me personally. I usually order my parts from thepartsplaceinc.com. im located in the midwest and they are local to me. I NEVER had an issue ordering parts from them! They have always had what I needed in stock.

Thanks for the advice, I know Ill get some heat for it but what is "ROP" exactly? lol
Ive been reading all the threads in the engine section and am learning a lot but noticing quite a bit of debate between using edelbrock parts versus others. Im getting a list together so I can order all the parts Ill need to put the engine back together once its back from the machine shop.
