HI Guys,
Just joined up, I bought a 442 project.
The car is a 1971 convertible 442, nicely optioned but rusty in all of the usual places. It has 153000 on the clock and looks to be fairly original. I see some cutlass front end parts and she has been painted, the stripe is not correct from what have seen so may have had some front end work. Frame looks good so far. I haven't had it up on a lift yet. What do you think?
Welcome.
Looks like "good bones" ? Wont know until you dive in deeper but looks like a lot of body work along with total restoration. Whats your plan? Hows it run? Have you checked the numbers on everything?
This is the right place for all things Oldsmobile.
I've been through your resto thread a few times already. Nice work.
Good bones is exactly how I put it. It needs a total resto, the interior is crumbling. The guy I bought it from had it for 10 years and put about 100 miles on it. It was in front of his house with a piece of rubber strapped around the body. The engine appears to be matching numbers, I haven't checked the trans yet. I did get it running and it sounds good. I didn't move it too far though the trans has a bad shaft seal and I'll be going through everything anyhow.
There isn't a single panel that doesn't need to be patched, including the trunk floor, areas on the floor pan and probably under the cowl. As you said I'll know more once I peel off the paint. I'll be doing the work in my garage. As soon as I make room in my garage I'll start disassembly.

Welcome to the group... Looks like you definitely have a project on your hands, but it will really be all about the efforts applied to bring the 442 to meet your expectations... That being said, there is plenty of info here to assist you along the way...
A 442, convertible in a sweet color combination! Check it out thoroughly to see what it needs and after that decide how you want to proceed. Original and unmodded is the best inve$tment if you are happy with that.
Fix the line from the fuel pump to the carb early on, saw a car get completely destroyed by that set-up, and it was at a home.

Too bad he had it covered in rubber I can only imagine that is what kept holding all that moisture in, oh well can't look back or change that. You will a nice convertible once you get it all shored up. Good guys on this site so helpful answers and info to follow if you need it. Make it fun.
