Another Cutlass

Guess I have been lurking around here long enough now that I should go ahead and post something.

Something.

This is my second '69, the first one having been snatched by the devil herself.

Link to my little photo journal effort in the signature zone down there...

Welcome. Inner fender wells look good, mine are rotted out. So, fairly solid to start with.

Thanks.
After recently having a long block dropped in, I was going to jump right on the fenders, because the current body color makes me a little nauseous, but instead I started working on cleaning out the rear window channel after finding tell tale little pimples in the paint under the stainless.

Welcome to CO, the problem with corrosion in the rear window channel is a common one.

Thanks one and all for the greets.

I too love 69's though I do admire the 68 front ends.
This one is not quite as clean as my first Cutlass (buildsheet folded up in the ashtray, abandoned by a bodyshop guy with an affinity for cheap white powders) but this one has more of what I wanted than the first one so....trade offs y'know I love em..

Though I could do with out the blood clot red-brown paint scheme.

Plans for this one are to follow the K.I.S.S. rule as much as possible.
Some minor (and reversible) changes are going to take place to bring the car current, as well as the obvious cleanup projects, but otherwise pretty much what you see is what you get.

As mentioned the old girl recently got a fresh 350 longblock (kept the core for a rebuild: F4 block and #5 heads).
I opted for the 350 because:
a.) that is what it had, and
2.)I don't race much so I just need the reliability

...plus I didn't want to have to hunt up and install a GPM fuel gauge to go with a 455.

@Oldsguy: yep this is the second time I have encountered cancer in that location on a GM car.
The first time was on my first car, a neglected '73 chevelle that I learned what not to do with.

Fortunately this rot has not made its way through yet, so I am counting myself lucky at this point.

I plan to do all I can to bulletproof this highly corrosion-prone area.
Right now I have the trim off and everything rough-cleaned and masked off.
I got the necessary POR15 products on order, so as soon as they arrive I will add more pictures of the progress.
My theory is that if I zinc phosphate and paint-seal the channel, all moisture will run down the gutters along each side of the trunk weatherstripping as intended.

One of the things that attracted me to this car was its lack of blingy-ness.
I am not fond of alot of shiny chrome, especially as window accent, so I am most likely going to have the trim powdercoated semigloss or satin black.
Going to have the clips P-coated as well, in hopes they won't decay.

Purists, please cut me some slack here...this car will never be sold so I am just making slight (and again, reversible) alterations.

The interior is to remain stock (including the AM radio), just planning to get the old buckets rebuilt. And a steering wheel that doesn't show 30% of its steel core.

Also I paused the other day to replace my crack-checkered and milky-toned tail light lenses for a better set.

Talking Welcome to CO

Looks like a good project, gotta agree the existing color has got to go. Keep us posted with picture updates as you make progress.

Very nice. I too am partial to the '69. Looks like you have a very nice project car there. Welcome to the site. Lots of good people and great cars here, but if you've been lurking, you already know that.

Just past the smallest pyramid, head south till you see the sphinx then bear due west till you spot the rock spray painted B.F.E.
It may be buried in a dune.

.....or El Cajon/La Mesa area, if you prefer
