Hey John! Welcome aboard! For W-31 information you should private message my buddy Joe (joesw31). He is a wealth of information on them, he owns 2 '70 W-31's. Good luck with the build!

Welcome John. Looking foward
to your pics.
So the W-31 hit the tree all by itself?
Ha ha, just funni'n, Adam.

Welcome aboard! You will find plenty of people here that are eager to help. A couple of us ARE partial to W-31s (really only kidding), I think WE ALL love Oldsmobiles period! But some of us do REALLY LIKE W-31s and even have one or two.
Ask us anything---we've probably been there, done it, or tried it.
Can't wait to see what you have and make sure to take some "Before and After" photos.

Thats OK Steve. No harm, no foul. Don't want to hi-jack this thread, but today I heard
that Steve Minore (Connecticut) is also currently working on a '70 W-31.

Steve is a great engine guy and built the motor in my next acquisition. I'm buying (already agreed on price and left deposit) on a '66 F85 that was on here. I think there was a thread started on the 4-speed conversion---search here for that or in the "For Sale" by Sal (L69). Steve built the 400 (very fresh and pretty stout) in that car and has done some small blocks that I know about. The "new" '66 should be fun!
Hey John, Does that '70 you're working on need just the body fixed or are you restoring the entire car? Drivetrain original? Hard to find parts like the balancer and carb. intact?
Make sure to keep us all up to speed on the progress.

Welcome, W31's are rarer than W30's it seems, at least in my experience, and info related to real ones is always welcome.

Document everything as found. W markings inside fenders, extra fuel line, everything.

Oh, and can you do a favor?

Go find that tree, and CHOP IT DOWN.

Wow John!!! One of my ALL-TIME FAVORITES!!! A Sebring Yellow (What it appears to be from these old eyes) W-31. I always wanted (still want) a Sebring Yellow W-31 and at one time thought of "making" a Rallye 350 W-31. Nobody has been able to prove that a Rallye with the "W-31" package ever existed, although rumors have circulated for some time about 12 or so being produced.
You have quite a car there, my friend. In one of my previous posts I inquired about the
"hard to find" stuff like the carb., balancer, etc. And maybe you told us, but I don't recall--is that car a stick? The engine appears to be old--is it original?
Make sure to check in here from time to time and give us updates.
Congrats on such a COOOOOOOOOOOL car!!!!!!!!!

John, I should've looked at all the photos BEFORE my last post---some of my questions would not have been needed. It looks like the balancer is present and the carb. looks to be original on the aluminum manifold. Yea, I know, and it is a stick.
Boy! That car took a shot!!! I have to commend you for keeping that car---years ago when these cars weren't as prized as they are today, most people would've parted that car or taken an insurance settlement and moved on.
With all the technology and equipment available, that car can be made to be as good as new. Good luck on the resto. Looks like you are well on your way to a speedy recovery!!!
