69 Cutlass
Hey All,
Recently picked up this 69' Cutlass. It currenty doesn't run due to the previous owner removing the distributor because he couldn't set the pins. Get a new distributor and front seats and it should be road worthy. I will likely be driving it as it is for a while while I complete my frame off resto on my 68 Impala and then this will also be getting a frame off resto and an engine rebuild. I will be keeping it as original as possible. Always been one of my dream cars, pretty stoked I found it.
On that note, how'd I do? Paid $3000 for it.

Here are a couple I took when I got them. Red is a roller, green is just a parts car. Red mostly needs the front clip and interior off the green car. I have two sets of glass, two sets of bumpers. Working my way through rust remediation currently, but I don't have quite as much time to dedicate to it as I would like.

Welcome to CO.
The Olds looks pretty good to me for $3K. Not crazy about the monochrome treatment on the grille and front trim though, so once you get it running reliably you might look into sorting that out.

Thanks! I was happy with the price. I definetely plan to add some chrome up front to even things out a bit.

I think you did well. I picked up my 69 in 2014 for twice your price....
This is how she looked back then, before she went to hell and back.... All I had added at the time was professional tint. Got her with 103,000 miles and she currently has 123,000. Still has the point set that I bought the car with. Runs great in my opinion, speaks volumes to what a good set of points can do !
thowey, clearly your ride is a Holiday Coupe but is she and S or a Supreme ? What power train, compression, etc ?

Honestly I should know if it an S or Supreme but i do not. I live in South Dakota and found the car in Florida. I was looking in that area becaues there are a lot of rust buckets here and my father lives in Florida. I found it, sent the money and had my dad haul it to his farm. Next weekend, I am going to Oklahoma to pick up a truck for him and then going to haul it down to Florida, drop the truck off and pick up the Cutlass, haul it home. I know it has a 350 paired to a turbo 350, unsure of compression.

No worries, learning about our cars is the best part of ownership.
Exciting isn't it, enjoy this part, all of it !
Ahh... this keeps getting better and better !

thowey, our cars don't do much in the way of advertising what they are. Back in the 60s cars spoke for themselves they didn't use over-sized logos and emblems to do it. Some say even less like Supremes which do not say it on the outside. My initial pic was grainy so I uploaded a clearer version. It only says Cutlass on the outside, front fenders, and should have a C/S emblem on c pillars. Insides a little different story. Our glove box doors say Supreme and the door panels are also C/S.
So everything is leaning in a nice direction.
Although I much prefer the double bump 442 hood of a Cutlass S. On stock untouched cars outside of 442s it generally indicates less power....
Cutlass Ss and low compression 350s generally are mated to 2 Speed THM300s. So you having a THM350 is a great sign...
You absolutely do not have an F85 as they are post cars. Sports Coupes / Post cars have a bar separating the 2 side windows. Ours are Holiday Coupes, meaning no bar between side windows. Just wide open space when windows are down like this pic below.
Luckily 69s have vin number confirmation. So all the guess work will evaporate once you review your vin number. First 3 digits are key. ( too bad in a sense because the guess work with all your positive indicators is a lot of fun...)
344 means 442
342 means Supreme
336 means V8 Cutlass
335 means L6 Cutlass
332 means V8 F85
331 means L6 F85
P.S. whether its and F85 or a 442 they are all great cars in my book. Oldsmobile produced some phenomenal vehicles, especially back then.
