67 cutlass a/c air box (miss)fit

Howdy all. I finally got to join you all. I just purchased a 67 cutlass convert. The factory a/c box isn't fitted properly to the fire wall. Here in Florida good a/c is a must. I have assembly manuals but I sure would like to find literature discribing repair procedure steps before I dive into- what for me is -a pretty invaulved job. Maybe I'm in the wrong part of this sight to get this info. Anyway- Hello.

There is a gap between the evap housing and the kickpanel. Its also a good place for water entry from the cowl. Mine is sealed with a black tar like goo and I added weatherstipping foam. You may want to get an assembly manual from one of the repop stores or it may be on wildaboutcars.com.

Thanks for the evap. housing insight. My problem is the air box aginst the fire wall. the top of it has a 1 1/2 in gap. I can actually feel the heater core with my fingers. I need to suck the bango and ducting out of there and fasten it properly. I don't know if I need to remove stuff under the hood to get the box fastened properly. The air box evaporator retainer is missing also. It think it's a 2 part affair. I think I can outfit something to get that sealed. I have a 330 4v with a 2004r automatic.

Thats odd. I can't think of anything in there that would allow it not to lay flat. I had the hole assembly out last summer when I was getting my evap box replaced. AFAIR, it's all self contained and sits flat. Then the heater comes thru on the passenger compartment side.

Thanks cqr that means my heater box isn't obstructed and maybe a couple of fasteners will do the trick. I wonder if those fasteners well require me to remove parts in the engine compartment to be able to tighten the fasteners.
I guess we both like spanish red. Yours looks great.

Thanks. I was able to remove the the box without removing anything engine wise. The little duct that goes from the evaporation box to the blower box is a little hassle, but if you aren't removing the evap box then the inner fender can stay in place.

The gooey gasket material on the metal retainer that fits around the heater air box and seals it to the kick panel has failed on my 67 442 with AC. Did you ever find a pre-manufactured gasket? make your own? Thanks

First, Welcome
Second, if you dont have a Chassis Service Manual for your car, get one
Third, a Fisher Body Manual could be a great help too

If you have the money, a Vintage Air A/C kit would be a good upgrade to install
