is a 62 394 old a good motor to pick up and rebuild

Depends on what you car to used it in. The transmission choices are limited. The original trannies are not very good and a conversion to a newer tranny is expensive.

If your going to use it with an original 62 thats fine they are a good engine.

If your going to use it in a rod or conversion then a newer engine is a better choice like a 455 of 350

Although, I have had some very deep discussions with myself about a cool looking 394 with an old tri-carb intake all hot-rodded up in a nice mid fifties Oldsmobile. Already thinking of the next project and the '46 isn't done yet!

I would suggest a more modern engine as Pat mentioned. A 455, 425, 403, 350, or even a 307 would be easier to find parts for.
