Need to replace, have replacement coming. Need to know if main bolt that holds it on is normal thread pattern, counter clockwise to loosen, or threaded to turn clockwise to loosen. Would appreciate any help.

From the 1956 Oldsmobile Shop Manual

The shop manual does not mention anything about left hand thread. My memory of the 1955 Olds was fine thread, but right hand conventional.(?) The manual says first to remove the radiator, then after removing the bolt, remove the pulley using Kent Moore tool J-6100. Upon installing, apply POB number 3 sealer to the inside diameter and the crankshaft key to prevent oil leakage. Use a new lockwasher and torque to 45-50 foot-pounds.

Thanks Ozzie....that is good info. I did pretty much as you describe, and it went well. My initial concern was that if I was not sure of thread direction, could break off bolt by using a breaker bar. Was a normal thread and came off clean...Thanks again.

I am missing the hamonic balancer bolt on my 55 because it was lost by last owner. Does anyone the size and thread count so I can find a Grade 8 bolt for turning stuck engine?

I can't help you on thread count but somewhere in my junk I should have the bolt you are looking for. If you can't get that information from someone else and I can find it it's yours for the shipping or I'll get the info off the bolt and you could buy it locally . My parts are 40 miles away and have been stored for 15 years so this will take a little time....Tedd
