455 Carb

455 Carb
Hello guys.
I need some help, I have a 72 olds cutlass with a BB automatic and recently I ran the numbers on the carb which are 7043250 ra....according every thing I'm reading this carb is for a 350 possible manual trans, is this correct.
Also could this be a tuning issue because of the carb being small than what the engine came with.
Any help would be great
Thanks

Thanks for the response. What is your view on after market carbs made by Holley or I should say summit racing..? It's there standard carb for olds 455
Or think I should find an original

Probably wouldn't hurt contacting Q-Jet guru Lars Grimsrud v8fastcars@msn.com as he'll send you his papers on all kinds of specs for these carbs. Send him your current carb number and intended application, and he may be able to aid in re-jetting it. Pretty sure Edelbrock carries lots of these parts. Lars is a real good guy, but wouldn't pester him to much.

What do you mean when you say "tuning issue"? As J(Chicago) asked, how does the engine run?
The '73 350 q-jet isn't any "smaller" than the '72 455 q-jet. The main differences between '72 and '73 Olds q-jets are the primary and secondary rods used, "maybe" the jets ('69' jets have been in just about every '72 and '73 Olds q-jet i've taken apart), maybe a different power piston spring, various factory settings on the outside, and the fact that the '73 was setup for EGR so it had an extra port on the baseplate. Also, you won't really know what rods and jets are in your '73 quadrajet until you take it apart. Now if it's warped in front like so many of them are by now, and as a result leaking fuel, and/or if you're a stickler for a numbers-correct '72 quadrajet, then i could see getting another carburetor, but what you have might be fine to start with.
