1990 Olds Custom Cruiser
Hello all, Just joined this group to check on other people who have/had
and Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser.
I just got rid of my 1988 Ford Crown Vic wagon. it had developed leaking fuel lines. while the engine was good (i gave it to my cousin to put
in his pickup) i didn't want to spend anymore money keeping the car on the road.
while driving home the other day i saw the Cruiser for sale. looks very good. 31k orig miles garage kept cream or yellow very nice all around inside and out. the owner is asking 4800/obo. i don't think i want to spend that much. what do you all think. Is this a good deal? also will the parts be around to keep it upkept for the next ten years?

Could you buy a comparable "modern" vehicle with same miles for $4800?
I have a 78 with 350k on it- Diesel was replaced with a gas 350 which currently has about 170k on that engine, trans rebuilt one time, odds and ends maintenance. Nothing that would break the bank. It needs a maintenance paint job and the headliner has fallen. Other than that, everything on it works except A/C and that's simply because I have not made time to r&r the compressor. I would not hesitate to set out on a 500+ mile road trip with this car.
That said, I did pass on a 56k mile 96 Roadmaster wagon last Saturday, but only because the auction was getting out of hand. It went for $6800, about $2000 more than I thought it should have, but a snag-tooth geezer was determined to have the car so I let him hold it.
Other than being slightly underpowered with the 305 or 307, you will find that a GM B wagon is one of the best overall cars they ever made and are usually dependable to a fault.

The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of a '90 Custom Cruiser in #3 ("car show") condition at $3400. In "showroom" condition, the value is about $5200. I think his asking price of $4800 is high, but the hugely low mileage does give it some value, in my opinion. I think Redog's suggestion is good, although you might even start lower, like the high $3000s, for your initial offer.
But rocketraider is also right. What would you pay for a late-model used car of that size and with that low a mileage? Probably well more than $4800. Probably put a 1 in front of that. Looked at from that point of view, his asking price is really not unreasonable.
Take it for a test ride, maybe have your mechanic look it over to make sure there isn't something major about to go bad, offer him $4K, and maybe get it for something in the low $4000s.
By the way, where is this car, anyway? If you don't want, I might be interested.
As far as parts, I wouldn't worry about it. Hell, I have no trouble getting mechanical parts (engine, brakes, transmission, etc.) for my 23-year-older '67 Delta 88.

Sounds like a great find to me. I agree with what others said, definitely try to get it for around 4k. Hard to find a nice wagon with low miles that has not been beat to hell or left outside to ruin. The fact that it is an Olds is the real bonus.
