Welcome to the group... Great looking 442... You can get the power you want without going the LS route which will require a lot of changes to accommodate the swap... Well built 350 or 403 are a viable option and are an easier replacement then the LS, 455 is also another option with some minor modifications... I believe several members here run some strong 403's... If the 442 is an original survivor. I would definitely keep the drive train Oldsmobile, JMO...
Welcome aboard Deovonni. As the others have said, great looking car.

Sounds like a great foundation as well.
I have a rough 87 442 that's been garaged for years. Ran like the wind for what it is but in the end the engine is limited.... These cars have a great go package minus the horsepower. Mine is rated 170 HP from the factory, yours 180. I managed to get it to show about 200 HP. That's about it for a stock code 9 307.
When new our cars ran around a 16.5 @ 85 MPH in the 1/4 mile factory stock. You can improve those numbers to about a 15.0 @ 90 MPH realistically with a bunch of simple tweaks. Mainly, true dual exhaust, TV cable adjustment, and weight reduction. The latter of which I doubt you will want to do with your mint all original 442.
Can the engine be rebuilt and intentionally built up sure, but 307s are not really the best candidates for it. And what are you looking at, maybe a 50 HP gain give or take.... That's a lot of money to be even with my stock 51 year old engine.... Which in itself is the weakest of the breed. Your likely gonna want more like a 120 HP gain over a stock code 9. A 1968 - 1976 350 built but daily driver friendly is probably your best bet. 300 HP 400 lb ft net like a GNX makes for some wicked acceleration with your stock drive-train. But that's me.
P.S. with regards to an LS swap, you'll find that here at ClassicOlds most active participants lean towards Oldsmobiles staying Oldsmobile engine powered. But if your still thinking this swap is the way to go there is a section dedicated to Non-Olds Engines. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ds-engines-76/
Either way please keep us posted and best of luck.
