1972 Oldsmobile W29 Convertible

Just purchased a really nice nice, all original W29 convertible that has been garaged it's entire life, the only thing that is not original are the wheels. It has AC, power windows, power steering, disc brakes and a special light package according to the broadcast card that I found under the seat, yes it was still there. No rust is this car what so ever, car looks new except for faded paint, everything works, having the AC charged today. Bought it for 9,400.00 and then the previous owner gave me all new seat covers and foam in the deal. The only thing this car needs is a new top.

I'm new to Oldsmobile so checking all this has bee difficult, I'm a Corvette person. Any info would help. Not sure what I'm going to do with it.

This just translates to a 1972 Cutlass Supreme convertible with a 350 V-8 4-bbl built in Lansing, Michigan, all of which you already knew except maybe for where it was built.

As far as the trim tag, the 04C means built in the 3rd week (C) of April (4), so that would be April 1972. Others will have the meaning of the other codes.

Very nice car, and no need to apologize for being a Corvette person. We all have our crosses to bear.

Keep that broadcast card safe. That is the only way you can prove it was an original 442 (W29).

Lovely car! I recently had my cowl tag decoded, and it seems our cars are very much alike, and born only a month apart. I noticed yours has the 442 details, and you mentioned it being a W29? I'm wondering what the difference is, being new to this myself. How do I know mine is not a 442, other than it doesn't carry the emblems? Again, very nice car. Congratulations.

That's really close to my 72 also. Built April 7, body 442325

Shelley, with W29 cars from 72 you really need something like a broadcast card, window sticker, dealer invoice etc to know they were born that way from the factory. In 72, you could get the W29 appearance and handling package on ALL the 2 door models offered that year. In previous years the VIN would give specific identification that would identify the 442. eg: in 71 the 442 VIN would start out as 344 (then could be followed by any of these body styles 77, 87, 57, 67 )

Welcome aboard! I am also a Corvette guy! But I have always loved Oldsmobiles as well. My first car was a 1968 Toronado with the high compression 455. You will like the forum!

Hey QMaster - I also have a '96 LT4 CE! Bought it in 2000 with 3,000 miles on it, and there are just over 30,000 on it now. Love that car.... I've had several 69-74 Stingrays but none at the moment. I'm really itching to get another 68-70 as soon as funds allow. My SX ragtop is always endangered when I get into this mode...

1SG Mosteller - welcome to CO.

Terry

1972 Oldsmobile W29 Convertible

I'm also finishing up a 1974 Corvette convertible, might be selling that one, but it will be nice when finished. Also have a 1964 Stingray convertible with 41,000 original miles.

I seen the car on craigs list for sale. I was hoping it would stay in Virginia. Did the car come that way with 2 different colors on the body? If not which color is original?

1972 Oldsmobile W29 Convertible

Tha car was ordered that way, it is Code 48 Sequoia Green and 57, Baroque Gold Metallic on the bottom, with a green top on the tag under the hood. Strange color combo, it is a really nice car, AC is being converted today. Looking for a set of 15" wheels with centers and rings if anyone wants to trade for the ones on it, they are new. No one list that color replacement top?
