1972 GMC p/u 350 Olds.
Hello, I'm brand new here and looking forward to getting some good advice and opinions. I bought this truck as is and have grown a bit fond of Olds motors as a result. I'm getting close to finishing it up for now. Just some pics of my wagon.
Welcome. Very nice truck. There will be several people here who will welcome you for putting an Olds motor in a Chevy. It is usually the other way around. Did the motor come in the truck or did you install it?
Motor came in the truck but the mods were very poorly done. I have had to go over just about everything and now I find myself much more interested in Olds motors as a result. I'm enjoying the build quite a bit.
It will make a great truck motor as it puts out way more torque than its chevy counterpart. Nice truck- I kinda wish my c-10 had an olds but I just got done putting a mildly built chevy 350 in it so it will be a while before I get serious about it.
Sadly, it's the 77' engine. I want to start building another, earlier 350 for it but I needed to join here and get the advice from the guys in the know. I'm gonna try a few more pics.

The #1 header tube was crushed the first time the engine torqued over because there wasn't enough room around the engine mount. You can see the yellow mark where the material had to be removed from the driver's mount. The motor was put in with a tranny adapter plate for a GM turbo 350. The GM torque converter did not sit flush on the flexplate (external counter weight was in the way) but that didn't stop the hack from throwing it together anyhow. So the tranny emptied it's guts out on me. My buddy threw a 69 Chevy fender on it and about half way through he realized that it wasn't the right one... but kept going anyhow. So there has been alot to undo. Now this great deal on a truck, has turned into a bit more of an expence than I had planned. I can't sell it now because of all of the money I have into it, so I may as well just keep going. You can see that I cut out the high beams and now I'm using the location for my fresh air intakes.
I installed a 330 Olds engine in my 58 Chevy tow truck back in the late 70's.
Henry
Ha, ha, Henry! I've owned Ford trucks up until now. Seems fitting that I would get off to an "interesting" start with my first GMC. I joined the 67-72 truck forum a while back and there are many Olds powered trucks. I had to join here because I really want to build a nice engine. Anyone have any ideas or better yet, some pic's of pcv valve re-location for these engines? I would really like to avoid drilling out the top of my valve covers. I have found a great twist on breather cap for the oil filler tube, but the pcv solution eludes me.
A 77 350 Olds, isn't a bad motor. The mains are windowed, but that could be fixed in a rebuild anyway.
Not suggesting a rebuild if the motor is running fine. Not that the windowed mains are mush, just not as strong as soild mains
77 is a 350R, so it probably has either 8 or 3A heads, can't remember which ones are 77. The really good thing is that the seats are hardened
Still a decent motor, don't be

what intake are you using?
If you are using an aluminium intake. Drill in the back or in the front for a pcv grommet and make a baffle on the bottom side. I have drilled just under the carb flange and tap for a hose barb. You can run a short hose to the pcv. If you do it in front you can run a longer hose or dril the front for the hose barb.

Hurst/Equipped now!
Purchased the Hurst Pro-matic 2 truck shifter and bought an old T-handle for $5 out of a wrecked 69 chev p/u. I media blasted the handle, painted it and polished it.
Newer buckets going into the truck. Now I'm considering options for a console. I would love to put something in from an Oldsmobile (preferably older) that would look somewhat at home in here. I'm not overly familiar with what's available, so I guess it's time to start looking. Suggestions are more than welcome. Something with a rocket logo or Oldsmobile on it prefferably?
